<p>The position of Area Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month live-in professional staff position in the Department of Residence Life. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, and requires active, energetic involvement in a small college environment, with opportunities for teaching, advising, and professional development. Area Coordinators will be responsible for the supervision of Resident Assistants, hall management, and student development across campus. Individuals in this position must have the ability and willingness to assume shared responsibility for campus-wide on-call duty and respond to crisis and emergency situations. Individuals in this position are also required to live in their campus provided apartment for the duration of their employment. This position will be responsible for representing the Student Affairs division for the Eclectic Scholars program due to overseeing Henry Hall. Lastly, this position will alternate spearheading the RA Recruitment and Selection Process and the RA Training planning processes on a biannual basis with colleagues.</p> <p>Founded in 1850, Hiram College provides students of all backgrounds an attainable private education that teaches the 21st-century skills needed to thrive professionally and personally in the face of inevitable and constant change. students in academic programs on its Northeast Ohio campus and online.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Community Development</p> <ul> <li>Develop a positive and engaging community to foster a sense of belonging where students can build positive relationships with one another. </li><li>Maintain high visibility and availability, including attending community events, regularly touring the community, and interacting with residents. </li><li>Know the residents and provide support for their socio-emotional development. </li><li>Utilize institutional data to assess and respond to student needs. </li><li>Implement and regularly assess the programming model used in the residence halls ensuring that the programming model is meeting the needs of the residential students. </li><li>Mediate conflicts between residents when intervention beyond the Resident Assistant is warranted. </li><li>Facilitate the planning and execution of 1-3 large-scale campus-wide programs every semester. </li><li>Assist in the execution of campus wide programming. </li></ul> <p>Supervision</p> <ul> <li>Supervise and evaluate an average staff size of 14 RAs. </li><li>Counsel and supervise the RA staff toward the goals of staff cohesiveness, positive attitudes, and good communication. </li><li>Set goals with the RA staff for their assigned areas. </li><li>Conduct weekly meetings with each individual RA. </li><li>Host weekly staff meetings to communicate upcoming events and discuss community concerns. </li><li>Ensure staff members are appropriately confronting and documenting behavioral issues and concerns. </li><li>Provide regular formal and information feedback regarding job performance. </li><li>Ensure that Resident Assistant duty procedures are followed. </li></ul> <p>Student Conduct & Crisis Management</p> <ul> <li>Review all incident reports for incidents that take place in the community and/or involve residents living in the community. </li><li>Work with the Assistant Dean of Students to identify areas of concern and help address community impacting behavior. </li><li>Respond to residents in need, referring to other professionals, when appropriate. </li><li>Provide leadership during times of crisis in and adjacent to the community. </li><li>Assume shared responsibility for campus-wide Professional Staff on-call rotation year-round by being available 24/7 during assigned times to respond to situations on campus. </li><li>Follow up on CARES team reports and other student concerns as assigned by the Assistant Director. </li><li>Assist in emergency situations as needed. </li></ul> <p>Administrative Tasks</p> <ul> <li>Perform administrative duties associated with summer projects and assignments. </li><li>Assume biannual responsibility with co-Area Coordinator with summer housing coordination and oversight. </li><li>Report, track, and follow up on maintenance issues with maintenance, housekeeping, and facilities stakeholders. </li><li>Serve as the primary contact for parents and family members of residents. </li><li>Meet with the Coordinator of Housing Operations to assist with room changes in halls. </li><li>Assist with room condition reports and damage billing processes. </li><li>Participate in the recruitment, selection, and training of staff members for the Office of Residence Life. </li><li>Assist in the facilitation of the housing selection process for returning students and new students throughout the year. </li><li>Attend and participate in weekly Residence Life Professional Staff meetings. </li><li>Attend and participate in weekly meetings with the Assistant Director. </li><li>Assume Central Staff office duties when Central Professional Staff are not available. </li><li>Oversee operations of a specialized area within the community for which the Area Coordinator is responsible. </li></ul> <p>Overarching Staff Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Serve as a role model for all hall staff and residents in personal and professional behaviors. </li><li>Demonstrate a consistent commitment to diversity by collaborating with individuals from different race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, ideology, religion, and national origin backgrounds. </li><li>Create and maintain positive professional relationships within the department and across the university. </li><li>Represent the department at campus wide events and assigned college committees. </li><li>Represent the college in professional organizations related to the position. </li></ul> <p>Eclectic Scholars Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Serve as the Student Affairs division representative for the Eclectic Scholars Advisory Board. </li><li>Work with Student Leaders to create programs and initiatives that benefit the community </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Proficient in Microsoft suite. </li><li>Proficient written and oral skills </li></ul> <p>Experience and Education</p> <ul> <li>1-2 years minimum of residence life experience. </li><li>Evidence of active involvement in a small college environment. </li><li>Bachelor's Degree Required. </li><li>Master's Degree Preferred.
