<p>Job Title Part-Time Instructor of Vocational Nursing - School of Health Professions - Modesto Junior College Site: Modesto Junior College Salary Range / Other</p> <p>The Hourly Range: $71.89 to 114.93</p> <p>Doctorate Range: $84.71 to 117.95</p> <p>(2024-2025 Certified Part-time Instructor/Overload Hourly Salary Schedule)</p> <p>Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>Not Eligible for Benefits:</p> <p>With the exception of Workers' Compensation coverage, not eligible to participate in the District's benefit programs.</p> <p>Position Summary Information</p> <p>Scope of Assignment</p> <p>Under supervision of the Dean of Health Professions, teach Vocational Nursing courses in accordance with course descriptions, outlines and class schedules; evaluate progress of students, advise students concerning educational matters, and participate in activities that strengthen student success. The Vocational Nursing program is a hybrid evening program with face-to-face in person labs.</p> <p>The successful candidate will join a Vocational Nursing department that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience. At least one-year continuous, full time or its equivalent experience in the designated nursing area within the previous five years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care. Recent experience may include teaching in the area of nursing.</p> <p>(A) Registered Nurse:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and</p> </li><li> <p>Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and</p> </li><li> <p>Have a minimum of two years experience as a registered nurse or licensed vocational nurse within the last five years.</p> </li></ol> <p>(B) Licensed Vocational Nurse:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Hold a current California active license as a Vocational Nurse; and</p> </li><li> <p>Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full-time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and</p> </li><li> <p>Have a minimum of two years experience as a vocational nurse within the last five years.</p> </li></ol> <p>The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. This is a hybrid program and applicants must possess an online teaching certificate from a recognized online instruction program such as @ONE 12-Weeek Course (onefortraining.org), the Online Learning Consortium (onlinelearningconsortium.org), or equivalent.</p> <p>Determined by California State Chancellor's Office. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.</p> <p>PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS</p> <ul> <li>Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level. </li><li>Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes. </li><li>Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds. </li><li>Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently. </li><li>Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person. </li><li>Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments. </li><li>Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications</p> <p>DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS</p> <ul> <li>Ability to serve as a professional role model to assist students to develop professional and ethical values and to maintain high standards of Vocational Nursing practice. </li><li>Ability to effectively instruct, supervise and evaluate students in all aspects of Vocational Nursing </li><li>Ability to work effectively in a close, collaborative team environment with other Vocational Nursing faculty. </li><li>Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and improve student equity. </li><li>Enthusiasm for the learning process. </li><li>Commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues. </li><li>Participate in professional growth and remain current in subject area and major state initiatives. </li><li>Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity. </li><li>Vision and energy to plan and organize programs to enhance student success. </li><li>Willingness to participate effectively in shared governance and to work collaboratively. </li><li>Personal qualifications such as effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Professional Characteristics</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Education and/or experience in teaching in Vocational Nursing at the community college level, with a particular emphasis in basic skills. </li><li>Current knowledge of Vocational Nursing practices. </li><li>Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level. </li><li>Competent in new pedagogies, such as Vocational Nursing practices, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity. </li><li>Recent experience working with African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other minoritized students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes; </li><li>Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students; </li><li>Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom; </li><li>Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in Vocational Nursing, especially as it relates to the relevancy of students' lives, interests, and communities; </li><li>Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom; </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices. </li></ul> <p>Example of Duties</p> <p>GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Part of the teaching assignment may be in person, online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays and Sundays to include off campus assignments. All part-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college.
