<p>Inclusion Mentor - Assistant Special Education</p> <p>Join the BASE (Best After School Experience) Program at Wayland Public Schools!</p> <p>Are you energetic, dedicated, and passionate about working with children? Do you have experience supporting students with special needs? The BASE program is seeking enthusiastic individuals to bring their talents and commitment to our vibrant Preschool through Grade 8 after-school program. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage in dynamic activities while providing essential support to students with special needs in an inclusive and nurturing environment.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and lead engaging recreational activities for Preschool through Grade 8 students. </li><li>Facilitate various activities, including arts and crafts, gym games, music and movement, drama, literacy, and science. </li><li>Track student attendance and monitor progress, providing support as needed. </li><li>Support fellow team members in ensuring a safe, productive, and efficient program for staff and students. </li><li>Create incident reports and follow up as necessary. </li><li>Design and facilitate high-quality enrichment activities that inspire student engagement. </li><li>Motivate students to set and achieve ambitious academic and personal goals. </li><li>Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and school staff to support student growth. </li><li>Provide opportunities for students to strengthen the connection between academic success, college readiness, and future careers. </li><li>Foster a culture of achievement and celebrate student successes. </li><li>Build strong relationships with students, families, volunteers, peers, and the school community. </li><li>Support logistics for program-related events and initiatives. </li><li>Facilitate students' success in inclusion programming, ensuring all students feel supported and valued. </li><li>Attend monthly meetings and quarterly professional development sessions to continue growing in the role. </li><li>Assist in the participation of students in appropriate after school activities. </li><li>Supervise and support students with life skills development, including eating, cleaning, and toileting. </li><li>Liaise with parents regarding academic priorities when appropriate. </li><li>Work collaboratively to eliminate systemic barriers limiting student access to opportunities. </li></ul> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:</p> <ul> <li>remain in a stationary position for periods of time; </li><li>position oneself to maintain and access school/classroom/office materials; </li><li>move through the classroom, school, school grounds, office, and/or off-site locations. </li><li>operate a computer and other school/office/educational productivity machinery; </li><li>observe details at close range; </li><li>in the school setting, ensure the safety of students; </li><li>multitask and meet multiple demands from several people; </li><li>lifting up to and including 25 lbs </li><li>the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. </li><li>will need to teach and support students with life skills development such as eating, cleaning, and toileting </li><li></li></ul> <p>Hours:</p> <ul> <li>Flexible schedules available from 2:00 PM (1:00 PM on Wednesdays) to 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM, 2-5 days per week. </li><li>Substitute positions available. </li></ul> <p>Pay Rate:</p> <ul> <li>Competitive pay:$27.45 - $30.53 per hour, depending on experience. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Specialized Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>Training and/or experience in special education, applied behavior analysis, or discrete trials (preferred but not required). </li><li>Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism practices. </li><li>Classroom experience is a plus. </li><li>Experience with diverse student populations is preferred. </li><li>Familiarity with Google Suite and PowerSchool (preferred, but training available). </li></ul> <p>Specialized Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills. </li><li>Ability to receive and implement feedback effectively. </li><li>Team-oriented with flexibility to adapt to job requirements. </li><li>Multitasking capability in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions & Work Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Read and interpret information on a computer screen and printed materials. </li><li>Hear voices and environmental noises, with or without assistive devices. </li><li>Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff in person, by video, phone, or writing. </li><li>Remain in a stationary position for extended periods. </li><li>Move through classrooms, school grounds, and off-site locations. </li><li>Operate a computer and other educational technology. </li><li>Observe details at close range and maintain student safety. </li><li>Lift up to 25 lbs as needed. </li><li>Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>Two (2) years of college preferred, but not required </li><li>Bachelors preferred, but not required </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprinting. </li><li>Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. </li></ul> <p>Location: Wayland Public Schools, Wayland, MA</p>
