Driving hours will be scheduled by you based on your availability and students' availability with assistance from the behind the wheel summer monitor. </li></ul> <p>Special requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must hold a valid driver's license with no serious violations and have prior approval before beginning. </li></ul> <p>Licensure, certification, and other requirements</p> <ul> <li>Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with 9-12 Safety & Driver Education endorsement, registered in Lake County. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Understanding of the Behind the Wheel program, including its structure, student and staff requirements, and scheduling. </li><li>Familiarity with Google Sheets or Excel and other Microsoft products. </li><li>Strong communication skills for staff and student support. </li><li>Problem-solving skills to address student challenges and provide solutions. </li><li>Ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of diverse learners. </li><li>Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks within a limited time frame. </li><li>Ability to follow program guidelines and expectations to ensure consistency and effectiveness. </li><li>Maintain a calm, professional demeanor while managing high-stress or emergency situations. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Track student progress towards meeting the driving requirements. </li><li>Make contact with students struggling to meet the driving schedule. </li><li>Regularly communicate with students and program administrators to ensure smooth implementation of the program. </li><li>Modify support strategies based on individual student progress and challenges. </li><li>Provide direct, in-vehicle instruction aligned to state driver education standards and district curriculum. </li><li>Ensure student and public safety at all times by maintaining dual control of the vehicle and modeling defensive driving practices. </li><li>Assess student driving skills (e.g., steering, braking, lane changes, parking, hazard recognition) and provide immediate, constructive feedback. </li><li>Maintain accurate records of student driving hours, skill mastery, attendance, and performance documentation. </li><li>Inspect vehicles daily for safety and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly. </li><li>Teach and reinforce traffic laws, risk awareness, and responsible decision-making. </li><li>Maintain required state licensure, certifications, and compliance with district and state regulations. </li></ul>
