These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Family Engagement Specialist helps to identify students and families who are Newcomers and/or experiencing homelessness or housing instability and connect them with city and state resources. To support Family Engagement initiatives at the school and community.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Oversee and monitor school-wide attendance, truancy, and on-time arrival, including data monitoring, family outreach, student support, and district communication </li><li>Create and implement proactive student attendance initiatives to communicate and invest students in the importance of being in school every day (eg school-wide raffles, attendance classroom "boosters," attendance homeroom incentives) </li><li>Create and implement attendance policies and interventions for students not meeting attendance goals - especially: 1) weekly student check-ins, 2) family meetings, and 3) home visits. </li><li>Coordinate with the District point of contact and community resources to assist homeless and newcomer families in getting essential resources, family support, and well-being. </li><li>Coordinate with outside resources and FRC to support families in need in our school community with outside resources and in school support. </li><li>Create and lead family engagement events, such as back to school night and student success nights. </li><li>Oversee school-wide family communication from staff, including running regular communication data and ensuring staff are meeting our family communication goals, and serve as point person for family outreach. </li><li>Maintain documentation and records by Lawrence Public School policies. </li><li>Investigate attendance problems reported to the school by other personnel or community members. </li><li>Participate on Student Support Team relative to attendance issues and parent involvement. </li><li>Assist with the collection and dissemination of appropriate information relative to the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Mental Health, and Social Security. </li><li>Collaborate with staff and teams in the development and implementation of multi-tiered systems of social emotional targeted interventions at the building level </li><li>Support as family liaison/ translator in behavior/ RTII meetings as needed. </li><li>Attend district wide trainings/meetings, staff meetings and attendance meetings </li><li>Participate in any School Climate / SEL initiatives as your school sees fit to incorporate and provide family and community feedback and a family and community "lens" </li><li>Perform related duties as requested as needed by Principal and Assistant Principal </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with youth and families from inner-city communities. </li><li>Bilingual in English and Spanish. </li><li>Exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills, and an ethical mindset </li><li>Active listening, presentation, and conflict resolution skills </li><li>Extremely punctual and reliable, highly organized and detail-oriented. </li><li>Computer skills/ proficiency </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma required.
