<p>Summary:</p> <p>The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) and CARE (Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment) facilities are dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs.</p> <p>Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high quality care for the animals we serve.</p> <p>The Transport and Placement Coordinator will partner closely with our internal partners to proactively plan and actively facilitate all animal movement from AAH, ARC and CARE to and from the Recovery and Rehabilitation Center in Pawling, NY, and animal movement to shelter and rescue partners with our Centralized Placement and Relocation teams. The coordinator is responsible for all the planning, organization, information sharing, and facilitation of animal transport. This includes but is not limited to animal transport to and from the R&R Center, shelter and rescue partners, and boarding partners, both locally and nationally. This position closely partners with the Administration team in ARC and CARE for all animal movement into and out of AAH, ARC and CARE.</p> <p>The ideal candidate for this role is self-motivated, highly organized, meticulous, innovative, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.</p> <ul> <li>The schedule for this role is Monday- Friday, 9 am- 5 pm. 4 days onsite and 1-day work from home as operationally permitted. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:</p> <p>Coordination and Facilitation of Animal Movements: 60%</p> <ul> <li> <p>Plan and execute strategic, ongoing transports of ARC and CARE animals in partnership with the ASPCA's Recovery and Rehabilitation Center, Relocation, Centralized Placement, and ARC and CARE teams (including Behavior, Medical, Shelter and Administration staff)</p> </li><li> <p>Lead outgoing transfers of animals to rescue groups and placement partners and ensure outgoing transfer of records and materials are sent accurately and in a timely manner</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate and facilitate transportation requests including but not limited to transport of animals from ARC and CARE to/from the R&R Center and placement partners, medical transport appointments to/from partner hospitals, and transport of animals to/from boarding partners</p> </li><li> <p>Effectively coordinate all aspects of transports with internal and external stakeholders, to include:</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure animal readiness</p> </li><li> <p>Identify and secure supplies, crates, and specialized items</p> </li><li> <p>Schedule handler(s)</p> </li><li> <p>Confirm operations and communications plan to relevant teams</p> </li><li> <p>Plan and share transport schedule</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain proactive communication with internal and external transport stakeholders (ASPCA Recovery and Rehabilitation Center, Relocation & Placement, NYC Transport, Centralized Placement and Adoption Center teams)</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare all necessary supplies and materials needed per animal for outgoing transports, including but not limited to medications, diets, enrichment and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain consistent records for all transports</p> </li><li> <p>Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using safe, low-stress handling techniques</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain handling skills to ensure safe, low stress loading of dogs for transport</p> </li><li> <p>Ensure thorough knowledge and use of shelter medicine disease control protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Liaise effectively with ASPCA Facilities, Fleet and Security teams as related to NYC Transport, R&R Center, and Relocation vehicles as applicable</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain all receipts and prepare monthly expense reports related to transports</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate transport operations in AAH, ARC and CARE</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as a primary point of contact for ASPCA transport policies</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain inventory of supplies, specialized items, and crates to ensure the viability of daily transports with the R&R Center</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate closely with the ARC and CARE Medical/Behavior/Shelter and Administration teams on transport operations and changes to schedules</p> </li><li> <p>Prioritize and ensure all transport protocols are adhered to</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain department transport records and metrics</p> </li><li> <p>Provide timely updates to ARC and ARE leaders about transport progress and outcomes</p> </li></ul> <p>Administration/Operations/Program Support</p> <p>Animal Placement: 40%</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with the Directors of ARC and CARE and fellow staff to monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the program, with particular attention to appropriate use of ASPCA resources to facilitate internal ASPCA transfers and animal placement </li><li>Provide back-up administrative and logistics support to fellow Administration team members in ARC and CARE </li><li>Participate in daily rounds with the medical, behavior, shelter and operations teams </li><li>Cultivate positive and productive relationships between staff, fosters, and volunteers to support positive animal outcomes </li><li>Provide training, supervision, modeling, coaching and ongoing guidance for staff and volunteers supporting transport activities </li><li>Other duties as assigned by supervisor </li></ul> <p>Exemplifies the ASPCA's Core Values:</p> <ul> <li>Has Commitment and dedication to improving the lives of animals </li><li>Demonstrates Ownership and feels responsible for outcomes </li><li>Believes in Team - that we are stronger together </li><li>Seeks to Elevate others and reimagine what is possible </li><li>Focuses on Impact, specifically making change for animals </li></ul> <p>Knowledge and Skill Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Organized and highly motivated self-starter. </li><li>Excellent time management skills. </li><li>Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with proven ability to multi-task. </li><li>Excellent attention to detail. </li><li>Strong computer skills, including Airtable, Box, Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Civicore, Salesforce, and ImproMed. </li><li>Strong ability to work independently as well as part of a team. </li><li>Ability to work efficiently and calmly under challenging circumstances and emergency situations. </li><li>Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, both short and long term. </li><li>Ability to work closely with behaviorally and medically compromised animals and feel comfortable working in an environment where euthanasia is performed. </li><li>Excellent low stress animal handling skills. </li><li>Comfort and ability to handle and restrain animals safely and humanely, particularly in stressful situations. </li><li>Strong interest and knowledge of animal welfare issues. </li><li>Knowledge of basic animal care. </li><li>Ability to maintain an open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols. </li><li>Maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with criminal cases. </li><li>Participate in occasional after-hours calls regarding ARC and CARE animal needs and foster emergencies. </li><li>Deploy locally (NYPD/CE) or nationally (NFR) at least once per year as operations permit. </li><li>Ability to lift 40-plus pounds. </li><li>Ability to lift animals in small and large sized crates, and other supplies regularly (food bags, crates, food cases, bedding, enrichment). </li><li>Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that requires standing, walking, bending, squatting, and/or kneeling for extended periods of time. </li></ul> <p>Work Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience working in veterinary hospital and/or shelter experience preferred </li><li>Previous experience in an operations, administrative/coordinator role preferred. </li><li>Experience handling dogs and/or cats strongly preferred </li><li>Complete Fear Free Shelter certification within 60 days of hire. </li></ul> <p>Compensation and Benefits:</p> <p>Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience.
