<p>Position Summary</p> <p>DLS is recruiting for multiple highly motivated and talented Assistant Attorneys General in the following legal specialty areas:</p> <ul> <li>Civil Litigation Unit - handles a wide variety of matters on behalf of the State of Wisconsin, its agencies, the University of Wisconsin System, and individual state employees. </li><li>Criminal Appeals Unit - represents the state in all felony appeals before the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. </li><li>Criminal Ligation Unit - performs several important functions involving criminal related matters including prosecuting selected criminal violations and providing training and advice to state prosecutions and law enforcement. </li><li>Environmental Protection Unit - enforces the laws that protect our natural resources. </li><li>Medicaid Fraud Control and Elder Abuse - investigates and prosecutes crimes committed against vulnerable adults in nursing homes and other facilities, as well as fraud perpetrated by providers against the Wisconsin Medicaid program. </li><li>Public Protection Unit - enforces the laws that protect consumers. </li><li>Special Litigation & Appeals Unit - provides legal advice to the State and its agencies and handles litigation in a wide variety of substantive areas, frequently on issues relating to constitutional law and governmental authority. </li></ul> <p>Please indicate your preferred legal specialty area/unit in a letter of qualifications.</p> <p>Under the general supervision of a Unit Director or Deputy Unit Director, Assistant Attorneys General provide legal advice and representation services in the enforcement of statutes, commencement of actions, or in defense of governmental clients. This position requires the exercise of sound and reasoned judgment in legal skills, analysis, and workload management. Apply Today!</p> <p>Salary Information</p> <p>The Assistant Attorney General position is in pay schedule 09 and pay range 75. The starting pay will be between $43.26 - $58.07/hour maximum (approx. $89,981 to $120,786 annually), depending upon experience and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work.</p> <p>Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.</p> <p>The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.</p> <p>A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.</p> <p>Special Qualification: Candidate must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar upon appointment.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications.</p> <p>Minimally qualified applicants must have a Juris doctor degree and professional law experience in the following:</p> <ul> <li>Analyzing statutes and case law. </li><li>Conducting in-depth research on complex legal questions, either as a lawyer, judicial law clerk, or law student. </li><li>Writing briefs, legal pleadings, or judicial decisions as the primary drafter. </li></ul> <p>In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have professional training or experience in the following:</p> <ul> <li>Oral advocacy in any court, administrative proceeding, or moot court. </li><li>Serving as lead counsel in jury or bench trials. </li><li>Working in a clerkship or for a court at the state appellate or federal level, or other comparable experience. </li><li>Serving as counsel in complex litigation in state or federal court. Relevant complex litigation experience may include: </li><li>drafting or responding to written discovery. </li><li>document review. </li><li>conducting depositions or witness preparation. </li><li>drafting summary judgement or other merits filings. </li><li>conducting trials. </li><li>handling complex appeals. </li></ul> <p>How To Apply</p> <p>The steps to apply online are quick and easy!
