<ul> <li>This position is a stipended position and is only open to current employees whose current job status allows them to participate in these opportunities. The first week of class is September 15, 2025. * </li></ul> <p>POSITION OVERVIEW:</p> <p>The position will reside in the Office of Secondary Schools in the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Director of Early College. The timeline for this position is one academic semester, Fall 2025, with an option to renew for future semesters.</p> <p>Boston Public Schools is partnering with Roxbury Community College to innovate and strengthen college course-taking opportunities for English Learners. High Schools participating in an Early College Consortium Pilot will work collaboratively to increase opportunities for multilingual students to explore diverse higher education pathways and career options through targeted coursework and resources.</p> <p>The Early College ML Specialist plays a key role in supporting multilingual students and ensuring their success in the early college setting. With expertise in teaching students at varying levels of English proficiency, the Specialist uses data to tailor instruction and differentiate learning within the college curriculum. In close collaboration with RCC faculty, the Specialist co-develops, implements, and evaluates high-quality, culturally and linguistically sustaining materials and instructional practices. By bridging high school and college coursework, the Specialist helps create a smooth transition for students and prepares them for long-term academic and career success.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate with Early College liaisons and the BPS Office of Secondary Schools to ensure smooth onboarding, active participation, and successful completion of coursework for students </li><li>Meet weekly with faculty to review and prepare course materials and ensure alignment with curriculum </li><li>Co-create accessible lessons and assessments for multilingual learners, including scaffolding and differentiation </li><li>Develop weekly, student-friendly language objectives </li><li>Build strong relationships with students and maintain regular communication to support their goals </li><li>Monitor student progress and collaborate with Early College liaisons on timely interventions to support persistence and success </li><li>Connect students to college resources such as tutoring, advising, and support services </li><li>Document best practices and recommendations to enhance future early college coursework and programming for multilingual students </li><li>Attend professional development, orientation, info sessions, and student/ family celebrations </li><li>Meet regularly with the Office of Secondary Schools and Office of Multicultural and Multilingual Education to support effective implementation and evaluation of the pilot. </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Schedule</p> <p>Timeline: September 10 - December 20, 2025</p> <p>One academic semester with the option to renew</p> <p>Desired Start Date: September 10, 2025</p> <p>Hours: 5-7 hours per week</p> <ul> <li>The position requires in-person attendance at Roxbury Community College and availability to co-teach one or both sections listed below.* </li></ul> <p>Section #1: Mondays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:15pm</p> <p>Section #2: Tuesdays & Thursdays: 3:30 - 5:00pm</p> <p>Hiring Manager: Katie Hill, Khill6@bostonpublicschools.org, Director of Early College</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>The ideal candidate for the ML Specialist will work at a high school in Boston Public Schools as an ESL/ML teacher or a licensed teacher with extensive experience in teaching multilingual students and curriculum.</p> <p>A successful ML Specialist will typically possess the following characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>An advocate for multilingual students and an extension of the BPS community </li><li>Strong presentation and communication skills </li><li>Knowledge of WIDA standards and alignment working with the BPS ML Curriculum </li><li>Flexible and open to new ideas to support a sustainable Early College model </li><li>Punctual with attendance </li><li>Excellent planning, time and project management, and organizational skills </li><li>Stellar judgment and excellent problem-solving capabilities </li><li>Experience assessing student learning and social-emotional needs </li><li>Eager and willing to build relationships and communicate with families to strengthen their school community </li><li>Be reflective of the school and district's student population </li><li>Bilingual a plus to communicate with families and students </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop partnerships and strategic relationships with a wide range of diverse constituents, communities, and stakeholders </li><li>Ability to use Canva, Microsoft Suite Tools, Google Suite Tools, Zoom, and Calendly efficiently </li><li>ESL License, SEI Endorsement, and/or Bilingual Education Endorsement </li><li>Teaching experience as an ESL teacher or an SEI/TBE/Dual Language/SLIFE teacher </li><li>Preferred: Working knowledge of the DOJ Successor Settlement Agreement with BPS, Massachusetts Ch.71A, LOOK Act, META Consent Decree, and other federal, state, and district policies that govern expected services for MLs in K-12 public education. </li></ul> <p>Compensation: $5,000 per semester per course section. If the Specialist can support both Course sections they will be eligible for $10,000. This is a flat rate stipend.</p>
