The Manager creates processes and acts as a resource for students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators regarding health and safety while traveling abroad. The Manager also serves as an incident responder for emergencies involving USC's international travelers.</p> <p>Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. </li></ul> <p>Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience living, working, or studying abroad. </li><li>1-2 years related experience in a relevant field such as study abroad, student affairs, emergency coordination, law enforcement, law, international travel and security, campus crisis management, and/or risk management. </li><li>Experience developing or revising policies and procedures in a university setting. </li><li>Experience developing emergency plans and coordinating international crisis response efforts. </li><li>Experience designing and facilitating trainings, workshops, and orientation sessions. </li><li>Advanced degree. </li><li>Comfort with ambiguity and ability to remain calm in quickly developing and fluid situations. </li><li>Strong understanding of study abroad operations, higher education, geopolitical matters and global security trends, risk assessment protocols, and emergency response coordination. </li><li>Strong independent judgment, planning, and decision-making skills. </li><li>Ability to stay calm under pressure and exercise diplomacy during crisis resolution. </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, tactfully with individuals at all levels. </li><li>Strong written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. </li><li>Ability and discipline to handle confidential and personal information with discretion. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Outstanding written and oral communication skills </li><li>Strong computer and presentation skills. </li></ul> <p>Job Duties</p> <p>Job Duty</p> <p>Risk Awareness, Analysis, and Assessment - Continually monitors the health, safety, security, political, and natural conditions in countries where USC travelers, programs, or research activities may be located or planned through daily monitoring of a variety of information sources. Creates and maintains system(s) for reporting worldwide safety and security incidents. Maintains statistics on the number, type, and severity of reported incidents; recommends preventive actions as necessary. Provides timely and thorough reports to leadership regarding systemic or particular safety concerns. Conducts research and risk assessments to minimize risk exposure for USC overseas travelers, programs, and research activities. Conducts site visits when requested.</p> <p>Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty</p> <p>Incident Response and Preparedness - Assists the Director and Assistant Directors in responding to student emergencies. Coordinates and/or monitors internal communications regarding particular crises or incidents to minimize confusion and maximize clarity and efficiency. Helps ensure that USC's EAO's response to incidents is carried out effectively and consistently. Coordinates with the Director and University Relations for all relevant external communications with the press and other constituents during an incident. Regularly conducts after-action reviews following incidents in a continuous effort to identify new approaches/strategies for crisis management, and to ensure that employees and agents are following proper procedures and protocols. Develops resources for and provides feedback to EAO staff on responding to emergencies. Ensures timely information is delivered to students in "at risk" areas. Assists students with the insurance claim process as needed. Serves as an on-call responder for after-hours student emergencies during peak times of the year (e.g. Spring Break, Maymester) and when the Director is unavailable.</p> <p>Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty</p> <p>Risk Review and International Collaborations - Maintains the University Travel Warning List in collaboration with the Student International Travel Oversight Committee. Manages student petition process to higher risk destinations, evaluates petitions, conducts risk assessment, and makes recommendations for approval or denial. Participates in unaffiliated program review committee process and determines if programmatic changes are necessary to minimize risk exposure. Participates in faculty-led program approval process and recommends programmatic changes to minimize risk exposure, if necessary. Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders on campus.</p> <p>Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty</p> <p>Resource Development - Designs and maintains resources, workshops, and other information to promote the well-being of students engaged in university-related international travel. Designs and delivers health and safety briefings to students engaged in independent travel experiences. Develops and maintains health and safety information on EAO website and other digital resources. Coordinates the insurance enrollment process.</p> <p>Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty</p> <p>Student Access/Eligibility - Manages student conduct and Care Team review process and serves as liaison to Office of Student Conduct and the Care Team. Reviews judicial records of all applicants and makes determinations as to what next steps are necessary for each student based on judicial history and readiness for travel. Manages office student medical and mental health support process and serves as liaison to University Health Services. Assists students with disabilities seeking accommodations abroad and students seeking information regarding how to access their medication abroad.</p> <p>Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty</p> <p>External Collaboration - Collaborates with and maintains key relationships with external partners and governmental professionals at the national and international level to stay abreast of global health and safety trends.
