<p>General Summary</p> <p>The Edward M. Kennedy for Health Careers seeks a forward and student-focused leader to serve as the Director of School Culture and Climate. This role will assist in cultivating a positive school culture by working directly with the administrative team and teachers to develop effective school-based systems for teaching teams and student support. We seek to foster a proactive, welcoming, student-centered teaching and learning culture that will propel EMK's long-term growth toward becoming a school with thriving student achievement.</p> <p>Kennedy Academy is a Horace Mann In-District Charter High School. It is a college preparatory and vocational high school for Boston students exploring careers in health and health-related professions. The Academy provides a supportive learning environment that promotes respect and embraces diversity. Students will attain the life skills needed to become productive and positive members of society. Kennedy Academy is a great place for those seeking to work in an environment that supports their creativity and innovation and respects their leadership skills and abilities.</p> <p>In addition, over the next five years, Kennedy Academy will double in size, add new health career pathways, college courses, work-based learning, and offer graduates access to good-paying careers at Mass General Brigham thanks to Bloomberg Philanthropies' $38 million grant, which marks the largest philanthropic investment in BPS history.</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Head of School or Designee</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Operational Leadership - Climate</p> <ul> <li>With the School Leadership and Climate teams, develop systems and structures to support a strong, joyful, and equitable school climate and student culture. </li><li>Execute a vision among all stakeholders that fosters the professional development of the staff, maximizes the student's experience at the school, and brings faculty, parents, and administration together effectively to create a positive school climate. </li><li>Maintain systems & organizational structures for school climate that will improve communication and cohesion across grade-level teams. </li><li>Coordinate collecting and analyzing relevant climate data, including early warning indicators, with the Shared Leadership and Support/Success Teams, and create Tier 2 and 3 interventions for students who need additional support. </li><li>Supervise the implementation of responsive behavioral/SEL data cycles & interventions to target student needs. </li><li>Support professional learning designed to create alignment of strong school culture. </li><li>Provide immediate student support as needed and support opportunities for student leadership & engagement. </li><li>Manage the application of the Code of Conduct to ensure due process & student safety. </li><li>Facilitate a decision-making philosophy of leadership that empowers teachers and engages and increases parental involvement. </li><li>Sustain a calm, reasonable approach and communicate effectively in stressful or problematic situations. </li><li>Prioritize and effectively manage competing tasks and responsibilities. </li><li>Collaborate with the Shared Leadership Team & Climate Team to set vision, direction, and cohesion of adult and student learning communities to support a strong school climate. </li><li>Collaborate with the Shared Leadership Team and Family Liaison to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environment for our families and that our school is an institution that can meet their needs. </li><li>Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Head of School. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High School degree or equivalent </li><li>Successful work in a school serving diverse populations in urban settings, with significant results in closing student achievement gaps </li><li>A profound commitment to equity that assures academic excellence for all children and creates an open, respectful, and inclusive child-centered environment for all children, their educators, and their parents </li><li>Exceptional organizational, communication (writing and speaking), public relations, and interpersonal skills </li><li>Displays a high-level proficiency in the use and application of educational technologies like Aspen as well as Google Drive or willingness to learn </li><li>In-depth cross-cultural experience and the ability to relate that experience to educational philosophy, cultural awareness, increased problem-solving skills, and school community building </li><li>Understanding of the critical role of collaboration among teachers at a classroom level and school level </li><li>Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree </li><li>6-10 years of school-based experience (ideally both instructional and operational) </li><li>Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools </li></ul> <p>Terms: BASAS, Group B10</p> <p>Please click here for more compensation information. The start and end times of BPS schools vary, as do the lengths of the school day. EMK has a longer school day through the "Schedule A" Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Agreement. The employee will be required to adhere to the work conditions, including calendar, schedule, and flexibility established by the School.
