The Vision of the Chicago Kroc Center is to touch individuals, families and seniors of the Southside while building community, promoting excellence, motivating wellness, teaching character, and encouraging faith.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>The General Music Instructor will be responsible for teaching introductory group music classes to students ranging ages 6-14. Instructor will be responsible for developing curriculum and assessments, establishing collaborative partnerships with the community, and encouraging students to explore their musical gifts.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for teaching group music lessons for the Kroc after-school program and summer day camp. Classes should prioritize exploratory music-making, giving students the opportunity to become familiar with basic musical concepts (e.g., pitch, rhythm, melody, etc.). Experience with Kodaly, Dalcroze, or Orff pedagogical methods may be helpful in this role. </li><li>Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessments, and lesson plans for each class taught. A summary of activities must be provided to the Music and Gospel Fine Arts Manager. </li><li>Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations. </li><li>Required to actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Fine Arts Director. </li><li>Required to attend assigned staff meetings. </li><li>Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience</p> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Three years required, five years preferred teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons. Applicants with experience in General Music [Elementary - Middle] will be prioritized. </li><li>Evidence of experience in curriculum development. </li></ul> <p>Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Able to work with children, parents and staff in a leadership capacity. </li><li>Possesses a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible; demonstrates initiative and diligence. </li><li>Proven experience in General Music instruction. </li><li>Punctual and reliable; able to arrive prepared and start classes on time. </li><li>Possesses working knowledge of music literature and current trends in music education. </li><li>Has a philosophy of education and child development that is consistent with that of The Salvation Army. </li><li>Willing to promote the mission of the Salvation Army. </li><li>Must complete all required training in Litmos within 30 days of hire, to include Safe from Harm, Illinois Mandated Reporter, and Chicago Bystander and Harassment Prevention training </li></ul> <p>JOB LIMITATIONS</p> <ul> <li>This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved. </li><li>This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <ul> <li>Satisfactory speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity. </li><li>Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds. </li><li>Requires bending, squatting and walking. </li><li>Standing for extended periods of time. </li><li>This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room temperature.
