Our core values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, drive our actions and demonstrate our focus on being principled public servants who are innovative and better together.</p> <p>Visit our website to learn more: https://coag.gov/.</p> <p>This position is open only to Colorado state residents. </p> <p>WHAT YOU WILL DO</p> <p>This work unit exists to conduct criminal investigations and prosecute diverse criminal offenses, such as auto theft, drug-related crimes and narcotics trafficking, election crimes, environmental crimes, homicides, human trafficking, identity theft, organized retail crime, public corruption related offenses, and state tax fraud, as well as violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA). This unit also works with federal and international authorities to investigate violent crimes, and apprehended fugitives, detainees, and victims/witnesses needed for trial. This unit receives multiple referrals and evaluates them to determine if they warrant further investigation and criminal prosecution in state court. Often, the unit acts as the lead investigative agency gathering information from partnering law enforcement and regulatory agencies not limited to numerous local, state and federal agencies within the State of Colorado. This unit also receives completed or ongoing investigations from other law enforcement agencies for subsequent prosecution. This unit provides training and technical assistance to law enforcement agencies within the State of Colorado and as requested, the Special Prosecutions staff will provide advanced training at a national level on certain topics. </p> <p>This position will work to support victims and witnesses through the criminal justice process. It will primarily assist the Criminal Justice Section - Special Prosecutions Unit in working with crime victims and witnesses. If the Special Prosecutions workload permits, this position may also support other units within the Criminal Justice Section. This position will interact with crime victims and witnesses by explaining and clarifying the criminal justice system and proceedings, as well as explaining court procedures and protocols; providing support prior to testimony; escorting victims and witnesses to court for trials or oral arguments; scheduling witnesses to testify and contacting them when scheduling changes occur; making travel arrangements for victims and witnesses and being available during court proceedings such as hearings and trials; initiating correspondence, answering inquiries, referring victims to additional services; engaging in supportive interaction with victims and witnesses; collaborating with service providers throughout the state; serving as an expert resource on victim issues and the Colorado Victim Rights Act ("VRA"). This position will also act as a restitution specialist, assisting in administering, coordinating, and processing court-ordered restitution in criminal cases. Working closely with victims, attorneys, law enforcement, and court staff, this role ensures timely, accurate preparation and support related to restitution matters. This position may be required to assist with special projects assigned by this position's direct supervisor.</p> <p>WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR</p> <p> </p> <p>Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated. </p> <p>Six (6) years of professional experience in at least one of the following areas: </p> <ul> <li>Providing victim or witness advocacy or support </li><li>Administering restitution-related programs or services. </li></ul> <p>OR</p> <p>A combination equal to six (6) years of related education and/or professional experience in at least one of the following areas: </p> <ul> <li>Providing victim or witness advocacy or support </li><li>Administering restitution-related programs or services. </li></ul> <p>If qualifying with Education, you will be required to provide a copy of your transcripts. </p> <p>Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.</p> <p>Required Competencies: The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for this position and will be considered during the selection process, including examination and/ or interview: </p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. </li><li>Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate concisely and effectively. </li><li>Customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work on a team. </li><li>Strong critical thinking and analytical skills. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, if you possess any of the following specifically include the details on your application, as this information will be used to assess your qualifications and may be used to determine a top group of applicants. </p> <ul> <li> <p>Working knowledge of the Colorado Victims Rights Act and victim rights compliance requirements. </p> </li><li> <p>Victim advocacy experience (experience may include working within a District Attorney's office, nonprofit organization, or volunteer victim services program.) </p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of restitution processes, including collection, documentation, and analysis. </p> </li><li> <p>Experience with court and criminal procedures, witness coordination, and case scheduling. </p> </li><li> <p>Intermediate or advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other office software for data management and reporting.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience serving as a liaison between victims/witnesses and legal teams. </p> </li><li> <p>Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain legal processes clearly to victims and witnesses. </p> </li><li> <p>Active listening skills and experience building rapport and trust with victims.</p> </li><li> <p>Organizational skills to manage schedules, coordinate witness travel, and ensure timely court appearances.</p> </li><li> <p>Analytical ability to interpret restitution data and identify discrepancies.</p> </li><li> <p>Professional resilience to manage emotionally charged or stressful situations while maintaining empathy and compassion.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working in a setting that required the ability to adapt quickly.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.</p> </li></ul> <p> Conditions of Employment: </p> <ul> <li>Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment. </li><li>This position may offer flexible work arrangements, working both remotely and in office.
