<p>Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider - Intensive Care Unit</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This role provides advanced, hands-on critical care to ICU patients by performing comprehensive assessments, managing complex acute and chronic conditions, and collaborating closely with attending physicians and consulting teams. The advanced practice provider delivers evidence-based care, manages ventilated and critically ill patients, and participates in the full spectrum of ICU activities, including admissions, daily management, procedures, and discharges during night shifts.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for critically ill ICU patients. </li><li>Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in collaboration with attending physicians and consulting teams. </li><li>Develop, implement, and revise individualized treatment plans based on patient condition, diagnostic findings, and evidence-based practice. </li><li>Monitor patient progress, interpret clinical data, and respond promptly and appropriately to changes in condition. </li><li>Manage ventilated patients and support the care of patients with respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, multi-organ dysfunction, and other critical illnesses. </li><li>Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic test results. </li><li>Initiate and manage medications, infusions, and other therapeutic interventions in accordance with scope of practice, hospital policies, and supervising or collaborative physician agreements. </li><li>Participate in ICU admissions, daily ICU management rounds, consultations, transfers, and discharges as needed. </li><li>Perform critical care procedures such as central venous line placement, arterial line insertion, and intubations. </li><li>Respond to coding and other emergent situations in coordination with anesthesia and the multidisciplinary team. </li><li>Utilize the electronic medical record (EMR) to document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately and in a timely manner. </li><li>Collaborate closely with an experienced and autonomous nursing team to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care at the bedside. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ICU experience providing care to critically ill patients. </li><li>Active Advanced Practice Provider license in the state of Massachusetts (MA). </li><li>Ability and willingness to work night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in an inpatient, bedside ICU setting. </li><li>Proficiency in managing ventilated patients and patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction. </li><li>Ability to independently perform critical care procedures, including central line placement, arterial line insertion, and intubations. </li><li>Strong skills in ordering, interpreting, and acting on laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests. </li><li>Competence in initiating and managing medications, infusions, and other therapeutic interventions within the defined scope of practice. </li><li>Effective use of electronic medical records (EMR) for documentation and care coordination. </li><li>Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills in high-acuity situations. </li><li>Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>APRN, Nurse Practitioner (NP), or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program. </li><li>Comfort working in a closed ICU environment with a wide range of medical and some surgical cases, including thoracic surgery. </li><li>Experience managing coding situations in collaboration with anesthesia and other critical care providers. </li><li>Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a highly collaborative and supportive team. </li><li>Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple critically ill patients in a fast-paced environment. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This position is based in a closed Intensive Care Unit with a patient population that includes sepsis, respiratory failure, shock, multi-organ dysfunction, and some surgical and thoracic surgery cases. The schedule follows a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. night shift, typically structured as one week on and one week off, providing extended periods of focused clinical work followed by dedicated time away. The ICU team includes in-house anesthesia support for coding and high-acuity situations. The nursing staff is well-seasoned, maintains a 2:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, and is described as highly autonomous, self-sufficient, friendly, and collaborative. Care is delivered at the bedside in an inpatient setting, supported by an electronic medical record system and standard ICU monitoring and procedural equipment, creating a professional, team-oriented environment focused on high-quality, evidence-based critical care.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Permanent position based out of Newton, MA.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $180000.00/yr.</p> <p>Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for critically ill ICU patients.
