<p>Reporting to the SCRC Assistant Director, the SCRC Reference Associate (temporary) serves a critical role in a fast paced, high profile, team-oriented academic special collections reference/access services unit committed to providing high quality customer service. The SCRC Reference Associate (temporary) position is crucial to providing SU faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the local and global research communities with general and specialized reference and access to the University's extensive cultural heritage materials, including rare books, personal papers, monographs, manuscripts, artwork, photographs, artifacts, time-based media, and born-digital formats through our on-campus reading room and our reference and access services operation. The SCRC Reference Associate (temporary) is responsible for monitoring the reference question queue, will research and answer general and specialized reference questions relating to SCRC's collection material and services, and participate in the SCRC Reading Room desk rotation. This position handles queries in compliance with university policies governing access to records and ensures the privacy and confidentiality of researchers, donors, and creators records.</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. </li><li>Experience in public service areas of a library, museum, or other customer service setting. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to conduct research and answer information requests. </li><li>Commitment to support and contribute to an equitable, inclusive, and accessible environment. </li></ul> <p>Skills and Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Strong written, verbal, and persuasive communication skills. </li><li>Strong time, organizational, and priority management skills. </li><li>Commitment to excellent customer service. </li><li>Creativity, flexibility, and ability to adapt to change. </li><li>Ability to be a proactive, engaged, and responsive member of team. </li><li>Strong critical thinking skills in understanding, analyzing, and solving problems related to library service and operations. </li><li>Strong attention to detail. </li><li>Interest in learning new skills and tools. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Independently research and answer general and specialized reference questions related to Special Collections, University Archives and Belfer Audio Archive materials from onsite and remote researchers. </li><li>Participate in the SCRC Reading Room reference desk rotation. </li><li>Participate in reference consultations as needed. </li><li>Manage reference queue and assign/forward questions to appropriate staff members. </li><li>Participate in routine retrieval and reshelving of Special Collections and University Archives materials. </li><li>Serve as back up to SCRC Access Services Supervisor in coordinating offsite collection material retrievals for the department. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Tools/Equipment</p> <p>Not Applicable</p> <p>Application Instructions</p> <p>In addition to completing an online application, please attach a resume and cover letter.</p>
