<p>Position Title: Principal - Elementary</p> <p>Reports to: Superintendent</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>Summary of the position: Provides professional leadership in the administration of the building and is responsible for the organization and operation of the schools' programs, while serving as an instructional leader.</p> <p>Qualifications: Appropriate certification or willingness to obtain certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Strong background in curriculum, instruction and assessment. Ability to plan and organize. Strong interpersonal skills and desire to build partnerships with staff, families and community stakeholders. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. Commitment to collaborative and ethical leadership. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.</p> <p>Supervises: Directly supervises assistant principals, classroom teachers, support staff and department heads within the school organization. Carries out supervisory responsibilities making recommendations for hiring and training employees; responsible for holding staff accountable and celebrating successes; addresses concerns and works with others to resolve issues.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Serving as the visionary for the building and performing the planning, implementing and evaluation of the school's instructional program based upon student needs. </li><li>Collaborating with others and developing data driven goals; implementing and evaluating school procedures, philosophy, goals and objectives aligned with district and state goals. </li><li>Completing various state personnel reports as required. </li><li>Conducting staff meetings and staff development sessions to meet the needs of employees and students. </li><li>Is responsible for the supervision of all staff members within his/her assigned building. </li><li>Arranging for substitute teachers when regular teachers are absent. </li><li>Coordinating the necessary activities for the completion of attendance and truancy reports. </li><li>Coordinating the scheduling of classes and teacher assignments. </li><li>Responsible for student discipline of the school, including bus and playground activities. </li><li>Coordinating the testing and assessment program within the school. </li><li>Actively involved in current research, workshops, educational literature, and discussions in order to grow as an administrator. </li><li>Determining the staffing needs of the building. </li><li>Promoting involvement of community stakeholders in the school program. </li><li>Supervising student compliance with rules and regulations as approved by the School Board. </li><li>Supervising special programs within the school i.e. guidance, speech, hearing, gifted/talented, Section 504, latchkey and health services. </li><li>Coordinating with the teachers various educational field trips and other enrichment activities. </li><li>Managing the budget allocated to the school and oversees the submitting of necessary purchase orders for expenditures. </li><li>Maintaining proper inventory lists for textbooks, equipment and instructional materials. </li><li>Responsible for the daily management of activities in the school, including the lunchroom, playground and student movement. </li><li>Responsible for the supervision of all extra-curricular activities. </li><li>Maintaining a strong community relations program with parents, civil clubs, and business leaders and citizens. </li><li>Preparing various reports as required by district administration. </li><li>Serving on committees as appointed. </li><li>Serving as a support resource for the Superintendent. </li><li>Coordinating custodial work plans and initiates work orders for planned maintenance. </li><li>Planning for and scheduling facilities use. </li><li>Recommending for employment both certified and noncertified personnel. </li><li>Encouraging school parent communication and involvement. </li><li>Overseeing the special education program, testing process, chair case conferences and annual case reviews. </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Special Considerations/Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
