<p>General Definition of Work</p> <p>The energy manager, under general supervision, performs professional work related to the management of the CMS Energy Management Department (EMD) which includes building automations systems and is comprised of a team of project managers and EMS control specialists. The energy manager will oversee maintenance of the database of utility expenses, periodic summary reporting, budget estimates (electric, natural gas, water, storm water), regulatory compliance, service contract negotiations, technical assistance to CMS Departments related to energy (usage and expense), general DOE regulatory compliance, and field audits/investigations. The role will also conduct and manage data analysis, technology health analysis (of automated remote computer control of HVAC and Lighting), and visionary responsibilities for improving HVAC-EMS optimal and cost-efficient operation while ensuring comfort. The EMD-EMS team collaborates with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing associates on the development, installation, maintenance, and control of energy efficient systems.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures </li><li>Research, analyze, and recommend efficient and effective energy utilization by forecasting, planning, and monitoring utility usage (gas, electric, water, sewer, storm water, etc.) </li><li>Maintain and produce reports showing trends, and other data as well as coordinating with schools and their specific energy coordinators </li><li>Identify high energy consumers. Accumulate and present pertinent information to senior engineers so corrective measures can be implemented </li><li>Oversee project managers' bidding, awarding, and managing of DDC Upgrade and Controls/HVAC Equipment/Component Optimization/Recommissioning contracts </li><li>Supervise, interview, recommend candidate for hire, train, evaluate performance and handle disciplinary issues as required </li><li>Collaborate in the development of the long-range capital replacement program for all building systems </li><li>Participate in the preparation of staff responses to requests for data and information and other correspondence relating to the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and Master Plan </li><li>Perform related work as assigned or required </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of energy management systems (EMS) or building automation systems (BAS) and their control of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems and the processes of efficient energy </li><li>Knowledge of remote and networked automatic computer control systems for buildings including remote building monitoring and operation (primary manufacturers include ALC-Carrier, Alerton-Honeywell, Trane, Johnson Controls, and Tridium-Honeywell-Invensys, BACnet and LON communications) </li><li>Knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes </li><li>Knowledge of OSHA regulations </li><li>Knowledge of Federal & State energy codes and practical applications </li><li>Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point, Access, and Visio software </li><li>Skilled in energy management software including online/cloud-based systems such as Energy Manager by Dude Solutions and utilities tracking databases </li><li>Skilled in energy cost calculations </li><li>Ability to utilize energy management control systems efficiently and train and direct project managers and control specialists in the proper operation and utilization of systems </li><li>Ability to analyze utility reports to identify energy or cost saving opportunities </li><li>Ability to develop and administer construction contracts and other service agreements </li><li>Ability to maintain, manage and prepare reports and records </li><li>Ability to select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or in a technical discipline such as energy, sustainability, mechanical, electrical, electronics, IoT, computer, and/or automation engineering </li><li>Five (5) years of experience in energy management </li><li>Supervisory experience preferred </li><li>Experience in Auto Cad Systems preferred </li><li>Certification in one of the following preferred: Certified Energy Manager (CEM, AEE), Professional Energy Manager (PEM, IEP), Professional Engineer (PE, NC Board of Examiners), HVAC H1/H2/H3 Licensing (NC) </li><li>Equivalent combination of education and experience </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation </li><li>Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings </li></ul>
