<p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide appropriate services as required including but not limited to emergency rescue and fire suppression; perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; perform emergency medical and first aid services as needed; prepare reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned. </li><li>Prepares and maintains accurate records of fire prevention and public education activities. </li><li>Participates in conducting routine building inspections for life & fire safety violations following the parameters of the department inspection program. </li><li>Assists with supervision of firefighters in all assigned company responsibilities including readiness and general maintenance of the station, quarters, equipment, and apparatus. </li><li>During emergency operations, functions in whatever position is dictated by the nature of the This may include but is not limited to basic firefighting, EMS care to level of certification, driver/operator of fire and EMS equipment, and/or as a supervisor required for the effective operation of their assigned Company and within the Chain of Command. </li><li>Determines the necessary equipment and resources needed to mitigate the emergency. </li><li>Directs the fire scene or other emergency response situations in accordance with department guidelines and regulations along with best industry practices while functioning as a supervisor. </li><li>Responsible for the safety of personnel within their operational control. </li><li>Responsible for the readiness and accountability; firefighters, quarters, equipment, and apparatus, maintains discipline of personnel within the Chain of Command. </li><li>Conducts EMS operations following department guidelines and state EMS protocols. </li><li>Prepares fire reports, personnel records, and any records or documents necessary for the operation of the company. </li><li>Performs related work at a level of supervision as required for the effective operation of their assigned company and personnel within the Chain of Command and as dictated by the needs and staffing of the assigned Company. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Three (3) years combined post high school work or education experience, required. </li><li>Three (3) years combined as career firefighter, required. </li><li>Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record. Obtain South Carolina license within 30 days of relocation. Must obtain Class E license within one year from date of Class "E" / equivalent DOT Commercial License that meets or exceeds SC Class "E" Driver's License preferred. </li><li>Obtain National Registry and State EMT or Paramedic license within 1 year of hire date. </li><li>Completion of Officer Candidate Program within 6 months of hire. </li></ul> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Departmental testing may be administered during interview. </li><li>Subject to psychological and physical health screenings. </li><li>Subject to criminal background check. </li><li>Subject to drug and alcohol testing. </li><li>NIMS certifications (ICS 100, 200, 700, 800) completed within 60 days of hire. </li><li>Considered emergency essential position and subject to report to work during any declared emergency situations(s). </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of inspection procedures of Fire Prevention measures, hydrants, occupancy pre-fire plans, and fire and life safety occupancy inspections. </li><li>Knowledge of handling emergency and non-emergency situations as various situations arise. </li><li>Knowledge of maintenance of emergency equipment including, but not limited to medical equipment, fire suppression equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, radio communication equipment, and firefighting personal protective equipment. </li><li>Ability to maintain a state of constant readiness to respond to all fire and medical emergency situations. </li><li>Ability to respond to and assist in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations including, but not limited to, structures, automobiles, wild land fires, and medical emergencies. </li><li>Ability to perform commercial inspections and pre-fire planning. </li><li>Ability to perform emergency equipment maintenance. </li><li>Ability to perform activities necessary to ensure life safety, fire control, and property conservation. </li><li>Ability to perform fire attack and extinguishment, protection of evidence of fire cause, extricate victims from vehicles, provide basic life support, assist Technical Rescue Teams, and assist Hazardous Materials Incident Response Teams. </li><li>Ability to obtain and maintain all certifications required to perform job duties. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work is typically performed in the field during emergency situations. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, inclement weather conditions, fire, heat, and toxic gases. The work requires the use of protective devices, such as SCBA, turn out gear (coat, pants, boots), gloves, helmet, safety glasses, flash hood, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, Body Substance Isolation equipment, and personal rescue equipment; may include technical rescue and/or hazardous materials response equipment.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds constantly to move objects and continuously requires standing, sitting, walking, carrying, lifting, reaching, pulling/pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, handling, fine dexterity, vision, hearing, talking, and foot controls. Must meet the medical standards established by NFPA 1592 and the department's medical testing vendor.</p> <p>MENTAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Frequently requires time pressures, emergency situations, frequent change of tasks, irregular schedule/overtime, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, tedious or exacting work, and noisy/distracting environment.</p> <p>REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION</p> <p>The City of Goose Creek is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
