This position provides engineering guidance and administration for the construction of the highway and related projects.</p> <p>Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</p> <ul> <li>Delivers effective leadership and supervision to the assigned work unit, conduct performance reviews, coaching and counseling, discipline and provide developmental opportunities for employees. </li><li>Interprets specifications, plans, and special provisions to project personnel. Conducts preconstruction conferences with contractors, utilities, county and city engineers to discuss potential problem areas. </li><li>Coordinates construction schedules of all concerned for the timely completion of highway projects. Resolves conflicts between contractors and project personnel as to the intent of the plans and specifications. </li><li>Performs routine office duties consisting of the review and approval of numerous project reports, pay estimates, documentation procedures, personnel payroll and reports, equipment, etc. Many of these office tasks will involve the use of a personal computer and networking system. </li><li>Meets and confers with utility owners, general public and other agencies to coordinate their interests in KDOT projects, such as Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment, monitors the air pollution of hot mix plants and the contamination of streams from run off. </li></ul> <p>View the full position description</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Four years of direct experience in engineering. </li><li>Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered. </li><li>Engineer in training or Fundamentals of Engineering certificate. </li><li>Valid Driver's License at time of appointment. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Extensive experience in the administrative of highway construction projects. </li><li>Experience in supervising engineers/engineering technicians. </li></ul> <p>Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment. </li><li>Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas.
