<p>The Pharmacy Technician Non-Sterile Compounding is responsible for assisting Pharmacists in the dispensing and distribution of compounded sterile preparations (CSPs) and non-sterile drug products.</p> <p>Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and USP guidelines prepares non-sterile drug products in order to ensure medications are ready and available for administration to the patient.</p> <p>Maintains accurate records utilizing established policies and procedures. If not already experienced in this area, Pharmacy Technicians at this level are expected to train and be fully proficient in non-sterile compounding within six (6) months of start date in the job.</p> <ul> <li>Non-Sterile Compounding: Under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist and following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and USP guidelines, prepares non-sterile drug products. </li><li>Prepares of all types of pharmaceuticals: hazardous and non-hazardous, controlled and non-controlled, with regards to non-sterile preparations only </li><li>Maintain accurate records of products prepared according to established documentation guidelines </li><li>Follows established procedures for appropriate and accurate documentation in electronic health record or similar. </li><li>Maintain clean and safe environment for drug manipulation </li><li>Assist Pharmacist in filling patient specific medication orders and prescriptions by pulling items and ensuring medication is ready for delivery </li><li>Accurately document work performed throughout the compounding and/or medication delivery process in various electronic and automated systems including but not limited to: EPIC, DoseEdge, Omnicell. </li><li>Distributes compounded sterile preparations (CSPs) and non-sterile drug products as specified by the Pharmacist to designated areas on the patient floors. </li><li>Maintain and store inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies within the pharmacy or other assigned areas under proper storage conditions and/or security. </li><li>Receives and scans incoming medication orders from Wholesalers and Supply Chain. Appropriately and handles paperwork for each order. </li><li>Restock medications and supplies </li><li>Rotate stock within storage areas to promote the use of first expiring medications to prevent drug shortages and mitigate potential for patient harm. </li><li>Discard expired drugs in accordance with established department procedures </li><li>Accurately document pertinent information regarding medications throughout day-to-day operations including but not limited to physical count, expiration dating, and beyond use dating if applicable </li><li>Keep accurate inventory and communicate with Pharmacy purchasing team </li><li>Assist pharmacy manager(s) in organization of controlled substance records including assistance in investigations regarding controlled substances when required. </li><li>Accurately handle and execute required documentation of controlled substances according to federal and state regulations, and Connecticut Children's standard operating procedures </li><li>Maintains other pertinent operational records not listed as required by department / state / federal policies and/or guidelines </li><li>When working in the main pharmacy, assists customers by answering incoming calls and greeting customers at the Pharmacy window. </li><li>Retrieves orders for pickup. </li><li>Performs other job-related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience Required:</p> <ul> <li>Required: High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare related field. </li><li>Some experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred but not required. </li></ul> <p>License and/or Certification Required:</p> <ul> <li>State of Connecticut Pharmacy Technician license. </li></ul> <p>License and/or Certification Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>PTCB </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Understanding of governing policies (USP <795>, <797>, and <800>) of non-sterile drug preparation </li><li>Solid understanding of technician responsibilities in electronic health record (EPIC) </li><li>Demonstrate strong understanding of various electronic and automated systems to accurately document work performed throughout the compounding process and/or the medication delivery process. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to use mathematical methods and functions required for pharmaceutical preparation. </li><li>Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite specifically MS word and Excel </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with patients and patient support members </li><li>Able to prioritize work and adapt to new workflows and processes </li><li>Able to work as part of a team </li></ul>
