<p>This is a Non-Permanent, Part-Time position</p> <p>The Department Services Aide-Meals is an entry-level position that implements the Home Delivered Meals Nutrition Program for older adults.</p> <p>The current vacancy is at the Senior Center in Central Park.   Incumbent must be available to work a varied work schedule as work schedule changes with demand for social services.</p> <p>Note: This recruitment may close at any time, and will close as soon as the hiring manager determines that enough qualified applications have been received.</p> <p>Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.  Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.Typical duties include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Intake and assessment </li><li>Information and referral </li><li>Training and coordination of volunteers </li><li>Preparing and maintaining statistical records </li><li>Coordinating and mapping delivery routes </li></ul> <p>The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. The City at its discretion, may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.</p> <p>Knowledge of: Basic social service needs of older adults and families; assessment skills and available community resources to meet clients' needs; standard office principles and procedures; personal computers and standard business software.</p> <p>Ability to: Communicate effectively with older adults, volunteers, families, and professionals; work collaboratively with staff in a team environment; maintain effective relationships with clients; pack and lift 20-pound meal coolers; bend, and load/unload prepackaged meals from cold storage.</p> <p>Possess:</p> <ul> <li>Strong computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Enjoy working with an aging population and volunteers </li><li>Patience, tact and diplomacy in a highly demanding environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent certificate required. College coursework in social welfare, social or human services, sociology, gerontology, or other behavioral sciences is preferred. </li><li>Three (3) years of experience working with older adults, or with volunteers, in meals delivery.
