<p>This is a Non-Permanent, Part-Time position</p> <p>The Department Services Aide-Meals is an entry-level position that implements the Home Delivered Meals Nutrition Program for older adults.</p> <p>The current vacancy is at the Senior Center in Central Park. Incumbent must be available to work a varied work schedule as work schedule changes with demand for social services.</p> <p>Note: This recruitment may close at any time, and will close as soon as the hiring manager determines that enough qualified applications have been received.</p> <p>Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 - June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.Typical duties include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Intake and assessment </li><li>Information and referral </li><li>Training and coordination of volunteers </li><li>Preparing and maintaining statistical records </li><li>Coordinating and mapping delivery routes </li></ul> <p>The preceding functions have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. The City at its discretion, may add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.</p> <p>Knowledge of: Basic social service needs of older adults and families; assessment skills and available community resources to meet clients' needs; standard office principles and procedures; personal computers and standard business software.</p> <p>Ability to: Communicate effectively with older adults, volunteers, families, and professionals; work collaboratively with staff in a team environment; maintain effective relationships with clients; pack and lift 20-pound meal coolers; bend, and load/unload prepackaged meals from cold storage.</p> <p>Possess:</p> <ul> <li>Strong computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills </li><li>Enjoy working with an aging population and volunteers </li><li>Patience, tact and diplomacy in a highly demanding environment </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent certificate required. College coursework in social welfare, social or human services, sociology, gerontology, or other behavioral sciences is preferred. </li><li>Three (3) years of experience working with older adults, or with volunteers, in meals delivery. Fluency in a second language preferred, but not required. </li></ul> <p> </p> <p>Certifications/License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment. </p> <p>CPR/First Aid Certificates must be obtained within three months of appointment.</p> <p>SPECIAL CONDITIONS</p> <p>Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.</p> <p>Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.</p> <p> </p> <p> APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE</p> <ul> <li> <p>An official City of Huntington Beach online job application must be filled out in its entirety.</p> </li><li> <p>Applications will be closely reviewed for relevant experience, education and training.</p> </li><li> <p>Applicants best meeting the City's needs will be invited to a department interview.</p> </li><li> <p>Upon a conditional offer of employment a pre-placement drug screen (select positions), TB Screening and California Department of Justice (DOJ) Live Scan fingerprinting must be completed with acceptable results.</p> </li><li> <p>Will be required to provide your current driver's license record, obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles, to Human Resources prior to completing other pre-placement processes.</p> </li></ul> <p>Please Note: Our primary means of communication with applicants is sent via email; therefore, please include a valid email address on your application. </p> <p>Ability to work in a demanding environment, use hands and arms repeatedly to pack items in coolers and lift 20 pounds.</p>
