<p>The Department of Chemistry at NC State University provides professional education for chemists at the undergraduate and graduate levels; teaches introductory chemistry courses, which are needed by students enrolled in other department programs; advances the discipline of chemistry by conducting research; serves the public by sharing information about chemistry through a variety of mechanisms and services; and commits to creating environments that are in alignment with our mission, vision and values. Applicants are encouraged to review the institution's mission, vision and strategic plan, and consider how their background, interest and experience would enable them to support the university.</p> <p>This temporary position primarily performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting/repair of equipment housed in the Department of Chemistry. Candidates will receive needed training on the job. This position also supports stockroom and facilities operations as needed.</p> <p>Responsibilities for this position include:</p> <p>Electrical/Electronics Repair</p> <ul> <li>Component level diagnostics </li><li>Component repair/replacement </li><li>Soldering </li><li>Use of diagnostic tools: Oscilloscope, Digital multimeter, amp probe, and circuit tracer </li><li>Attend training offered by vendors when new equipment arrives in order to be able to service equipment (as much) in-house as possible. </li><li>Service manuals not always available for reference, contact vendors for assistance when necessary </li><li>Occasionally necessary to contact vendors for repairs when equipment is under warranty or repairs are beyond the skill level of the individual </li><li>Work closely with vendors/faculty/staff/students to resolve issues </li></ul> <p>Equipment examples:</p> <ul> <li>EPR (Electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometers) </li><li>NMR (Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers) </li><li>LCMS (Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometers) </li><li>HPLC (High performance liquid chromatography) </li><li>FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometers) </li><li>Various Analytical equipment </li><li>Gloveboxes </li><li>Laminar Flow Hoods </li><li>Recirculating chillers </li><li>Ice Machines/refrigerators/freezers </li><li>Pumps (vacuum and liquid) </li><li>Air compressors </li><li>Electric motors </li><li>Power tools </li><li>Hot plates </li></ul> <p>Plumbing/Carpentry/Metal Fabrication</p> <ul> <li>Experience working with low and high pressure gases </li><li>Experience with fluid systems and plumbing </li><li>Swagelok and other plumbing methods </li><li>Use available tools and equipment to build items out of wood/metal </li><li>Install shelving </li></ul> <p>Equipment and Office Relocation</p> <ul> <li>Assist in moving furniture </li><li>Assist in moving laboratory equipment </li><li>Coordinate with vendors/Facilities </li><li>Coordinate delivery and installation of scientific equipment with faculty. Ensure all utilities are available.
