<p>General Overview: The Wet Floor Worker is responsible for the first stages in the processing of hides to produce leather. This includes removing wet hides from drums, trimming and stacking hides, and cleaning and maintaining the work area.</p> <p>This position is full-time, direct hire, first shift, and eligible for benefits on the first of the month following hire date.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Bends and reaches inside drum and lifts hide one at a time from pallet. Turn and lift wet/dry hides from pallet or box loaded with hides (hides weigh 50-60 pounds). </li><li>Wears protective equipment, chemical gloves, apron, rubber boots, and eye protection. </li><li>Washes down work area each day using a water hose. </li><li>Cleans and maintains equipment trimming of hides (wet and dry). </li><li>Keeps work area clean and free of obstructions. </li><li>Ensures product flows for production needs. </li><li>Monitors all safety measures in place for an accident-free workplace. </li><li>Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Must be team oriented. </li><li>Receives and follows instruction from Supervisor on work to be performed. </li><li>Ability to use knife to trim hides. </li><li>Standing 8-10 hours per day. Normal shift is 8 hours. </li><li>Understands and abides by company work and safety rules, including but not limited to Hazcom identification, lockout/tagout, and confined space rules. </li></ul> <p>Special Considerations:</p> <ul> <li>Lifting of wet hides (50-60 pounds). </li><li>Handling wet hides. </li><li>Must use extreme caution when working around the machinery due to the wet operation. </li><li>Attend initial and annual training in proper lifting and material handling techniques. </li><li>Must attend initial and annual training in use of hazardous materials. </li></ul> <p>Special Equipment Required and Provided:</p> <ul> <li>Gloves for chemical use. </li><li>Ear protection. </li><li>Eye protection. </li><li>Apron - rubber or plastic. </li><li>Rubber boots. </li><li>Employee shall wear sturdy (closed) shoes. No sandals or open shoes are permissible in manufacturing facilities. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions: Non-climate-controlled and wet production area environment.</p> <p>Safety Hazards: Depending upon production department, may be exposed to dust, air borne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and solvents. Safety glasses, hearing protection, safety toe boots, gloves, sleeves, and aprons are required while performing certain tasks.</p> <p>LANGUAGE SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to apply concepts of basic math (counting and simple addition/subtraction)</p> <p>REASONING ABILITY</p> <p>Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute in problem solving.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
