<p>FALL RIVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS</p> <p>TITLE: ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Appropriate Massachusetts Licensure </li><li>Bachelor's Degree with major or minor in English </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal and Department Head</p> <p>JOB GOAL:</p> <p>To develop literacy skills (skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing) that are fundamental to good communication and literate citizenship; to develop appreciation and investigation of good literature; to develop strong writing skills; to provide students with authentic and alternative assessments; to develop criteria for critical judgment of written and oral communications; to direct research and inquiry as a vehicle for student driven learning; to utilize differentiated instruction to ensure all students receive an equitable education.</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism students, utilizing a standards based course of study developed by the English Department and adopted by the School Committee </li><li>Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of </li></ul> <p>the individual student.</p> <ul> <li>Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussion based on a variety of classical and </li></ul> <p>contemporary literature.</p> <ul> <li>Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas. </li><li>Evaluates each student's progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). </li><li>Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive </li></ul> <p>classroom environment.</p> <ul> <li>Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and </li></ul> <p>helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.</p> <ul> <li>Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. </li><li>Participates in curriculum and other development programs. </li><li>Maintains professional growth through in-service educational activities provided by the school </li></ul> <p>department and/or in self-selected professional activities.</p> <ul> <li>All other responsibilities that are listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Fall River </li></ul> <p>Educators' Association and the Fall River School Committee.</p> <p>SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Fall River Educators' Association contract.
