<ul> <li> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> </li><li> <p>The Lactation Consultant/Nurse Educator provides support for the breastfeeding mother, in the maternal child health units by instruction and guidance in successful breastfeeding techniques as well as maintaining a Lactation Help Line for calls from mothers concerning breastfeeding. Also works closely with the staff of Mother-Baby, Nursery, NICU, and Labor and Delivery by providing up-to-date education of advances in breastfeeding information. Provides additional education support as Childbirth Class Educator, Nurse Educator for staff on an as needed basis.</p> </li><li> <p>DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> </li><li> <p>Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:</p> </li><li> <p>Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant other as needed according to the care, treatment services and identified risks specific to the patient and documents patient and/or family understanding.</p> </li><li> <p>Provides inpatient and outpatient education to patients, families, and/or significant other(s) as received by referrals from physicians, nursing, staff, and interdisciplinary departments</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluates patient education materials. Obtains and distributes patient education resource materials to physician offices as well as maintaining educational materials for the Mother-Baby unit.</p> </li><li> <p>EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum requirement:</p> </li><li> <p>Graduate from an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nurses.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains active RN license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and any other states as applicable.</p> </li><li> <p>Achieves and maintains American Heart Association</p> </li><li> <p>Basic Life Support (BLS),</p> </li><li> <p>Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of start.</p> </li><li> <p>Achieves and maintains Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 90 days of start.</p> </li><li> <p>Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certificate obtained within 1 year and maintained.</p> </li><li> <p>Must have 1 year of acute care experience as a Registered Nurse.</p> </li><li> <p>Preferred qualifications:</p> </li><li> <p>Bachelor's Degree in Nursing</p> </li><li> <p>Minimum 2 years of experience in Maternal Child Health</p> </li><li> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly works near moving mechanical parts</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation</p> </li><li> <p>The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.</p> </li><li> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to walk and move about.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.</p> </li><li> <p>Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.</p> </li><li> <p>Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.</p> </li></ul>
