<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Westbrook Public Schools</p> <p>Elementary Special Education Teacher (1 position)</p> <p>(Full Time)</p> <p>Pay Rate Based on WEA Agreement Contract</p> <p>Westbrook Public Schools is looking for a Full Time Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year.</p> <p>(Wilson Language Training Preferred)</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITION:</p> <p>A special education teacher is responsible for providing individualized education and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role involves creating and implementing tailored educational plans that promote academic, social, and emotional development in a supportive classroom environment. They will work collaboratively with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for students.</p> <p>Qualifications/Certifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Connecticut certification in special education (065, 165, or 265) </li><li>Experience in a (elementary, middle, or high) school setting desired </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's degree preferred </li><li>Experience working with students of diverse learning needs is preferred </li><li>Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators, support staff, and families </li></ul> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with parents, administrators, and other professionals to create tailored IEPs that reflect the student's academic and social needs. </li><li>Deliver specially designed instruction utilizing research-based strategies in reading, mathematics, and/or writing skills to eligible students. </li><li>Develop and maintain individualized skill-appropriate lesson plans that are focused on student needs, interests, abilities, and backgrounds. </li><li>Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students that include specific, measurable goals and objectives to track student progress. </li><li>Use a variety of teaching methods, accommodations, and modifications to meet the diverse needs of students. </li><li>Background in assistive technology tools preferred. </li><li>Regularly assess student progress towards IEP goals and adjust instruction and/or strategies as needed. </li><li>Keep accurate records of assessments, assignments, and behaviors. </li><li>Prepare reports for parents and school staff on student progress and development. </li><li>Create a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere that fosters student growth and confidence. </li><li>Ensure supervision of students at all times throughout the school day. </li><li>Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings using data to drive the decision making process. </li><li>Stay informed about current best practices and legal requirements in special education. </li><li>Attend professional development opportunities as needed. </li><li>Maintain inventory of educational materials and supplies. </li><li>Knowledge of Connecticut special education platform, CT-SEDS, preferred. </li><li>Other duties may be assigned by administration. </li></ul> <p>DISCLAIMER: This is a general job description.
