<p>OVERVIEW</p> <p>The Cook County Department of Human Rights and Ethics is seeking a Policy Analyst who will support policy research and contribute to memorandums and recommendations for local government and community stakeholders. Responsibilities include assisting with data collection, policy analysis, and the preparation of policy presentations. The role responds to requests from policy leadership, community agencies, and the public for subject-matter population data and related reports. Additional duties involve developing policies to improve inefficient procedures, supporting the creation and implementation of strategic plans, and providing administrative assistance to the department.</p> <p>Cook County offers great benefits and the chance to participate in a strong tradition of public service. In addition, Chicago is serviced by multiple bus and train lines for public transportation from the suburbs to the city, taxis are plentiful, public parking garages for motorists, and bicycle share rentals and local bike lanes for bicyclists.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>Assist in policy research and contributes to memorandums and recommendations relevant to local government and community stakeholders. Assist with data collection, policy analysis, and policy presentations. Respond to requests from policy lead, community agencies, and the public for subject matter population data and reports. Develop policies and provide recommendations concerning inefficient procedures to develop more effective work methods. Assist with the development and implementation of strategic plans while providing administrative support to the department.</p> <p>Typical Job Duties</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the development and implementation of policy strategic planning. </li><li>Research and develop policies and programs to support Cook County priorities. </li><li>Manage special projects that support county-wide priorities. </li><li>Working with county departments to align work plan items for organizational efficiency. </li><li>Reporting on the status of county-wide priorities and goals. </li><li>Track and report data/input from staff and stakeholders regarding recommendations for policy research, including presenting recommendations that may be presented for amendments or repealed. </li></ul> <p>Required for all jobs</p> <p>Performs other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher and </li><li>Two (2) years experience in policy making, analysis, policy data collection, or directly related experience or </li><li>An equivalent combination of education and/or experience. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Four (4) or more years of experience in policy making, analysis, or policy data collection. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Skill in executing moderately complex data collection, synthesis, analysis, reporting, and development of recommendations to support financial area(s), where analysis is based on diverse or non-standard problems. </li><li>Ability to provide support and collaborate with team members and entry-level management to drive accuracy and precision in analysis. </li><li>Knowledge of procedural analytical practices to perform moderate studies and continually adapt new methods. </li><li>Ability to work with a variety of people, including policymakers and governmental officials. </li><li>Excellent critical thinking, analytical, writing, and communication skills. </li><li>Ability to develop, coordinate and implement programmatic changes. </li><li>Excellent communication skills coupled with ability to clearly articulate through written document. Excellent organizational skills. </li><li>The ability to plan, organize, coordinate, multitask and prioritize under pressure with minimal supervision. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
