<p>The Green Bay Water Utility is seeking a Water Quality Coordinator to join our team. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health by ensuring safe, high-quality drinking water for our community through comprehensive water quality monitoring, testing, and regulatory compliance.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <p>As the Water Quality Coordinator, you will support and lead water quality operations across the Utility's service area. This includes collecting and analyzing water samples, coordinating regulatory sampling programs, maintaining laboratory certification, and providing technical support to plant leadership and operations staff. </p> <p>Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.</p> <p>The City of Green Bay is a leader in employee health and wellness with its Health/1265 program with a goal to engage all employees in their own health and well-being by providing insurance premium incentives and other benefits.</p> <p>At the City of Green Bay we strive to foster an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging. We welcome LGBTQ+, women, and minority candidates to apply.</p> <p>Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Leads and participates with filter plant staff to accurately perform skilled laboratory testing. </li><li>Coordination of water quality projects </li><li>Participates in development of Filter Plant annual budget and Capital Improvement Plan </li><li>Act as backup when Filter Plant Manager is gone. </li><li>Coordinates with regulatory agencies and consulting engineers to ensure compliance with water quality monitoring programs. </li></ul> <p>Lab Technician</p> <ul> <li>Collects and analyzes water samples. Coordinates and conducts city-wide distribution system sampling for bacteriological and chemical parameters. Collects samples from pre-set sites on a scheduled frequency and identifies new sites. Tracks number of required monthly, quarterly, and yearly samples and monitors progress towards completion in order to meet state and federal regulations. Conducts field tests including use of multi-parameter analyzer meters to assess water quality conditions. Obtains water samples from other locations as needed, including source water and treatment process sites, and performs routine chemical/ physical analyses. Packages and ships samples to laboratories. </li><li>Maintains Filtration Plant laboratory state certification for appropriate water testing procedures and equipment. </li><li>Provides microbiological program assistance by preparing and conducting basic microbiological testing procedures. </li><li>Conducts bench chemical/ physical tests in a manner which assures a high level of accuracy for the data submitted. </li><li>Uses and maintains, through proper Calibration, portable instruments. </li><li>Leads applied research projects. </li><li>Operates and maintains bench equipment. </li><li>Coordinates investigation of water quality complaints. </li><li>Drafts and reviews laboratory standard operating procedures with Filter Plant Manager. </li><li>Maintains complete and accurate documentation and records. </li><li>Maintains knowledge on emerging water quality issues. </li><li>Maintains lab supplies for water quality testing operation. </li><li>Works safely with hazardous chemicals using proper techniques and safety guidelines. </li><li>Utilizes computer and related software to perform job duties. </li></ul> <p>General</p> <ul> <li>Maintains clean and orderly premises. </li><li>Maintains safe work areas and equipment. </li><li>Performs computerized record keeping and report generation. </li><li>Assists Filter Plant Manager in performing duties as assigned. </li><li>Performs other related work as required. </li><li>Bachelor's degree preferred in Chemistry or related science field from an accredited school. </li><li>2-5 years of lab technician experience desired </li><li>State of Wisconsin Surface Water Treatment Certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment. </li><li>Valid driver's license and good driving record. </li><li>Supervisory experience is desired. </li></ul> <p>A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of basic chemistry and math for dilutions, conversions and general lab practices. </li><li>Knowledge and skill in water sampling collection techniques and proper handling methods. </li><li>Skill in the use of lab equipment including, but not limited to, spectrophotometers, scales/balances, titrators, pH meters, pipettes, graduated cylinders and turbidimeters. </li><li>Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to proficiently utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff, regulatory personnel, and the public. Ability to use time effectively and efficiently. Ability to work the required hours of the position, including availability to work extended hours and after-hours call-ins as needed. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>Ability to perform the following activities:</p> <ul> <li>Lift and/or carry up to 10-20 pounds. </li><li>Frequent standing, walking, sitting, crawling, reaching and stooping. </li><li>Occasional work in confined spaces. </li><li>Ability to focus on projects for a long period of time. </li><li>Ability to work in inclement conditions. </li></ul> <p>The above is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements.
