<p>Salary Grade</p> <p>Case Western Reserve University is committed to providing a transparent estimate of the salary range available for this position at the time of its posting. The salary range is between $56,395 and $71,340 depending on qualifications, experience, department budgets, and industry data.</p> <p>Employees receive more than just a paycheck. University employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes excellent healthcare, retirement plans, tuition assistance, paid time off, and a winter recess.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>POSITION OBJECTIVE</p> <p>Working under general supervision, perform specific aspects of a broader engineering problem. The engineer 1 will receive supervision on new aspects of the work and on difficult problems.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Perform specific aspects of a broader engineering problem. Help develop underwater and dry-land robots to support complex scientific and research programs related to area of mechanical engineering with a specialization in robotics, analyze data, monitor and oversee experimental process, and design and develop prototypes, specialized equipment, and/or systems. Operate crab-like robots to collect data for crab-like robots, update code and make small repairs or 3D print components as needed. They select and purchase key components, assemble and prototype and /or specifications of mechanical parts. Maintain and implement code base for robot, make practical suggestions for improvement of design and operation. (40%) </li><li>Apply methods and techniques, adjust and correlate data, determine errors in results, and follow the operation through a series of related steps to completion. Install and maintain instrumented test bed and perform robot test experiments and document results. (20%) </li><li>Exercise judgment on certain details of the work and in assisting in making preliminary selections and adoptions of possible alternatives. Coordinate with other team members etc., plan meetings, draft reports to funding agency, organize shared tools, technical materials and data, and distribute as needed to various team members. (17%) </li><li>May be assisted in work by a technician or student helper. Work with team to prepare demonstrations / presentations / figures. (15%) </li></ul> <p>NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Update website, promotional activities, onboard new students; and may travel to annual conferences for demonstrations. (5%) </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. (3%) </li></ul> <p>CONTACTS</p> <p>Department:</p> <p>Daily contact with supervisor to discuss research and maintain workflow. Occasional contact with department staff for purchasing and logistics.</p> <p>University: Occasional contact with other departments to share information like staff from other labs or think[Box].</p> <p>External: Limited or no contact with vendors to exchange information like professors and students from collaborating institutions.</p> <p>Students: Contact with student employees to exchange information like students who are researching in the lab and working together in teams, especially graduate students.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>This position has no direct supervision of staff employees.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Experience: 0 to 2 years of professional engineering experience.</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering.</p> <p>REQUIRED SKILLS</p> <ul> <li>Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within mechanical engineering with the specialization in robotics. </li><li>Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. </li><li>Ability to operate laboratory equipment. </li><li>Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. </li><li>Ability to meet consistent attendance. </li><li>Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>General laboratory environment.
