<p>Job Title: Phlebotomist I</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and offer workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of specimen collection clearly and courteously, and demonstrating techniques using straight or butterfly needles.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens. </li><li>Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment. </li><li>Update patient information and collect/store specimens as per protocols. </li><li>Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection processes. </li><li>Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. </li><li>Understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. </li><li>Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens based on test orders. </li><li>Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. </li><li>Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures. </li><li>Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. </li><li>Attend annual department trainings. </li><li>Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. </li><li>Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. </li><li>High School Diploma or GED. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>1 year of experience with blood draws in high volume settings. </li><li>Experience with patients ranging from babies to geriatrics. </li><li>Reliability in performing duties consistently. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The work environment is fast-paced, typically in a laboratory or hospital setting. It involves interacting with patients of various age groups. Compliance with safety regulations is mandatory.
