<p>The purpose of this position is to perform detail-oriented payroll monitoring functions with a focus on ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing through background setup, payroll analytics, quality control checks, and account reconciliation, while also serving as a reliable back-up for payroll operations. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. </p> <p>The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.</p> <ul> <li>Understands and recommends proper setup and use of all payroll background systems to ensure accurate and efficient payroll processing each cycle. </li><li>Reconciles payroll-related accounts (e.g., PEBA, insurance) or follows up with HR or other departments regarding discrepancies. Involves frequent problem-solving and attention to complex issues, often under tight deadlines. </li><li>Generates and analyzes payroll reports each cycle to proactively identify and correct errors prior to final payroll submission. Requires continuous, close attention to detail to ensure accurate results. </li><li>Serves as a back-up for payroll processing to ensure uninterrupted operations during absences or high-volume periods. May be subject to unusual pressures to meet strict payroll deadlines. </li><li>Functions as the department's expert on payroll processes and the timekeeping system, providing guidance, support, and troubleshooting for system-related issues and policy compliance. </li><li>Reviews and verifies the accuracy of employee leave accruals to ensure alignment with policy. Requires close monitoring and interpretation of complex time and leave rules. </li><li>Reviews input changes such as new hires, terminations, and salary adjustments to confirm accuracy before payroll is finalized. This work involves coordinating tasks based on established guidelines and rules. </li><li>Performs related work as assigned. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education. Bachelor's degree in Business administration, accounting, and/or finance preferred. </li><li>Over four years and up to and including eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. </li></ul> <p>All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
