<p>Department</p> <p>Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals</p> <p>Division</p> <p>Trades</p> <p>Salary</p> <p>$50,545.00 - $55,928.00</p> <p>Job Profile</p> <p>JC-02239400-64 - Diesel Truck & Heavy Equipment Mechanic (LIUNA RILDC Local 808 BHDDH Zambarano)</p> <p>Scheduled Work Days & Work Hours</p> <p>Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm</p> <p>Standard</p> <p>Restricted/ Limited to the leave of the prior incumbent</p> <p>Job Requisition Number</p> <p>JR102442 DIESEL TRUCK&HVY EQUIP MECHANI (Open)</p> <p>Pay Grade</p> <p>C03118 A</p> <p>Classification</p> <p>Diesel Truck & Heavy Equipment Mechanic</p> <p>Class Definition</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To perform a wide variety of duties involved in the inspection, maintenance and repair of diesel trucks and motorized equipment; and to do related work as required.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assignments of inspections to be made and repair work to be done are issued by a superior; work methods are subject to approval, but not constantly supervised; all work is reviewed upon completion for satisfactory results and may be inspected closely for conformity with technical requirements.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Usually none, although may direct the activities of a subordinate assigned to assist.</p> <p>ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:</p> <ul> <li>To inspect, maintain and repair automobiles, trucks, tractors, snowplows, hydraulic equipment, road maintenance machinery and related mechanical equipment. </li><li>To inspect, adjust, repair, rebuild and replace, when necessary, transmission, diesel engines, main bearing assemblies, steering assemblies, front and rear axles, differentials, air and hydraulic braking systems, magnetos, carburetors, starters, generators and distributors. </li><li>To perform such tasks as refacing, reseating and grinding valves; honing cylinders, replacing bushings, bearings, and gaskets; timing motor; aligning front wheels; relining brakes; inspecting and repairing alternator systems. </li><li>To do automotive body, radiator, electrical and battery work not requiring the work of a specialist. </li><li>To adjust and repair sanding equipment. </li><li>To perform simple welding tasks; adjust and repair truck body and lifts. </li><li>To repair tools and garage equipment. </li><li>To make urgent and emergency repairs on the road. </li><li>To operate a snowplow, truck or other equipment in an urgent or emergency situation. </li><li>To study the construction, operation and maintenance requirements of all newly acquired trucks, equipment and passenger car models. </li><li>To test and troubleshoot hydraulic system using meters and gate valves. Adjust and repair hydraulic valves, fabricate hydraulic hoses, test hydraulic pumps and motors. </li><li>To generate appropriate documentation for the initiation and tracking of work orders through to completion, both in-house and the general marketplace. </li><li>To review invoice documents for work performed by private sector sources for appropriateness or work scope and accuracy. </li><li>To do related work as required. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:</p> <p>KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment and methods employed in diesel truck and motorized equipment repair and adjustments; the ability to locate and correct mechanical defects in diesel trucks and motorized equipment; a skill in the use of tools and equipment employed in the repair of diesel trucks and motorized equipment; the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks in the repair or rebuilding of motorized equipment without detailed instructions or close supervision; capacity to perform work while exposed to extreme weather conditions; to perform heavy lifting as assignments require; to knowledgeably exercise safety precautions and common prudence as applied to work performance in roadway settings, materials and fuels handling and storage, and equipment operation; and related capacities and abilities.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a senior high school or a recognized GED equivalency, and completion of a vocational or trade school course in the field of diesel truck repair and maintenance; and</p> <p>Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment as a general diesel mechanic for a construction company, trucking fleet operation, or provider of diesel truck equipment repair services.</p> <p>Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain at least a valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver's License, Class B with airbrakes endorsement as a condition of employment .
