<p>TITLE: SCHOOL NURSE EDUCATOR</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ol> <li>Maintains a valid Massachusetts DESE school nurse certification that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area assigned. (Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university) </li><li>Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) </li><li>Licensure as a registered nurse by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) </li><li>Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors </li><li>Possess good communication skills both verbal and written </li><li>Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities </li><li>A sense of humor and a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with all staff members, students, and with the larger educational community </li><li>Such alternative to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of School Health Services JOB GOAL: To coordinate the smooth and efficient operation of the school health services in order to realize the maximum positive impact on the education environment and student body. SUPERVISES: Students in health services and health aide as assigned PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to): </li><li>Utilizes the Nursing Process in providing care for students and staff for illness and/or injuries occurring during the school day and files Injury Reporting form/ Student Accident Claim Form per district protocol. </li><li>Adheres to MA state regulations relative to "responsibilities of the school nurse in the management of concussive injuries in the school setting…". </li><li>Maintains strict student/staff (patient) confidentiality at all times while consistently promoting professional nursing standards in individual practice, and with district policy/procedure and protocol. </li><li>Monitors school attendance/chronic absenteeism utilizing Continuous Quality (CQI) Improvement Strategies (including, but not limited to, strategizing with the school team and working with/educating families on the critical importance of time on learning). </li><li>Creates and maintains Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCP's) for students with special medical concerns. </li><li>Maintains comprehensive electronic school health records. 4.9 TITLE: SCHOOL NURSE EDUCATOR S:JobDescription\EAPC\Aux Educ Personnel\School Nurse Educator.docx </li><li>Serves as a liaison between school, home/family and community-at-large. </li><li>Functions as a mandated reporter and directly addresses/responds to student/families and school staff on any issues related to sexual/adolescent health, mental/behavioral health, self-harm, suicidality, bullying and/or substance use/abuse. </li><li>Recognizes signs and symptoms of communicable diseases and reports to the Board of Health/Department of Public Health per district protocol. </li><li>Maintains Basic Life Support Instructor Certification. </li><li>Supervises any assigned certified nursing assistants (CNA's)/health aides. </li><li>Follows individual student safety plans, IEP's, 504's, health care plans, etc. </li><li>Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. </li><li>Strives to participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in the educational/nursing fields. </li><li>Participates in activities that support the school-based Medicaid program. </li><li>Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues and parents/guardians concerning the health progress of students. </li><li>Makes provision for being available to students and parents for health-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. </li><li>Implements the school district's strategic plan and individual school improvement plans. </li><li>Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. </li><li>Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others. </li><li>Participates in activities that support the school-based Medicaid program. </li><li>Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal and/or Director of School Health Services as appropriate.
