We encourage you to apply and become a valued member of our vibrant campus community today!</p> <p>At the University of Wyoming, we are committed to creating a supportive and enriching workplace.</p> <p>JOB TITLE:</p> <p>WYSEO Intern</p> <p>JOB PURPOSE:</p> <p>The Wyoming State Engineer's Office (WYSEO) is charged with the regulation and administration of the water resources in Wyoming. To assist those efforts, the intern position will assist Safety of Dams personnel with routine inspections as well as assist other division personnel (surface water, groundwater, board of control, interstate streams) with tasks as they arise. This is an onsite, full-time position based in Cheyenne, WY from mid-May until mid-August. Travel is required.</p> <p>Enjoy all that historic Cheyenne has to offer! Wyoming is known for its outdoor recreation and abundant opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, skiing, rafting, and boating are all within a few hours' drive from Cheyenne. Cheyenne is also located along the Front Range urban corridor and close to diverse restaurants, festivals, concerts, professional sports, and Denver International Airport.</p> <p>JFNTMP</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.</p> <ul> <li>Aid Safety of Dams Engineers in inspecting dams within the state that have been classified as high or significant hazard potential. Assist with periodic inspections of low hazard potential dams. </li><li>Aid in preparing correspondence to the owners of the above-mentioned dams detailing deficiencies and recommendations for action or repair. </li><li>Perform electronic records management of existing and new dams within the state. </li><li>Aid other WYSEO divisions (surface water, ground water, board of control, interstate streams) </li><li>Works a varied schedule that may include overtime. Work will be limited to between Monday and Friday. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to safely walk on uneven surfaces, navigate heights, and to enter confined spaces in order to complete inspections. </li><li>Encounters with snakes, spiders, mice, etc. </li><li>Overnight travel is required. </li><li>Long distance walking and use of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) is required. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. </li></ul> <p>NOTES: SEO does not arrange nor approve academic credits. Students must work with their academic advisor to determine if they are eligible to receive academic credits for this work experience and communicate additional reporting requirements to their supervisor.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Preference will be given to at least junior level students at the University of Wyoming in good standing. </li><li>Preference will be given to students with majors in Engineering, Natural Resources, and Geology. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS:</p> <p>Complete the online application.
