<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>Serves as crew leader for the Sign Crew, which performs skilled highway and bridge maintenance functions. These skilled maintenance functions include, but are not limited to: installing, repairing, and maintaining flat sheet signs, extruded panel signs, sign assemblies, and sign foundations; performing vegetation management to improve visibility of signage; installing paint and preformed pavement markings; litter, debris, and dead animal removal. Performs a variety of other activities related to maintenance operations. In conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance activities, operates equipment such as: Large Roller, Skid Steer Loader, Tandem Dump Truck, Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, etc. Assists crew foreman, as needed, in planning, organizing, and assigning work to be performed by maintenance crew. Assists crew foreman in developing summaries of daily work performed by crew to be recorded in the maintenance management system. Assists crew foreman with the completion of other documentation related to maintenance operations. According to established inspection guidelines, inspects roads for missing, damaged, and/or poor condition signs and pavement markings. Inspects roads for other safety hazards. Records all inspections according to established guidelines. Coordinates and conducts daily preventative maintenance activities for all assigned crew equipment to ensure that equipment is greased and lubricated, proper coolant and oil (engine and hydraulic) levels are maintained, hoses and belts are inspected for deterioration, tires are properly inflated, and no leakages are present. Coordinates and conducts safety inspections for all assigned crew vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Maintains a list of items and supplies needed by the crew, and ensures that there is adequate quantity on hand for the crew to perform their duties in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Assists crew foreman with managing assigned crew(s) during emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Operates both anti-icing and removal equipment during snow and ice response on highways and bridges. Performs other related duties as assigned.</p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator 's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.</p> <p>The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
