Resumes are not accepted in lieu of an application and/or the Work History section.</p> <p>Any position posted may be closed or extended at any particular time during the advertisement period, at the discretion of Comal County.</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>Maintain the Comal County Jail and Sheriff's Office in high standards and oversee maintenance of major mechanical and electrical systems (i.e., routinely will work with electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and emergency generators).</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:</p> <ul> <li>Routinely inspects Sheriff's Office area and Jail facilities mechanisms and plan for preventative maintenance. </li><li>Oversees maintenance contractors and verifies all finished work. </li><li>Repairs minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical problems. </li><li>Inspects air-conditioning equipment on a regular basis to ensure it is maintained in proper working condition. </li><li>Performs routine maintenance on generators at several Comal County radio tower sites on a weekly basis. </li><li>Moves or assists in moving office equipment, furniture, supplies or records. </li><li>Performs custodial tasks as needed. </li><li>Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to superintendent; helps maintain grounds. </li><li>Subject to rotational on-call duty as needed per Departmental Policy. </li><li>Performs other related tasks and assists in other county buildings as directed.. </li><li>Attendance is an essential function of the job. </li></ul> <p>Note: The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is assigned by the supervisor.</p> <p>Mandatory Qualifications</p> <p>EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE</p> <p>High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Must possess working knowledge of heating, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, emergency generators, and custodial procedures and practices. One (1) to two (2) years of maintenance operations.</p> <p>CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS</p> <p>Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas driver's license in order to operate county vehicles.</p> <p>Desired Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>LANGUAGE SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.</p> <p>MATHEMATICAL SKILLS</p> <p>Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.</p> <p>REASONING ABILITY</p> <p>Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>This position has been identified with possible risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or other various hazards that require immunization against such exposure. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to highly precarious places. The job is located inside the secured areas of the Jail, with convicted felons in close contact. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
