<p>ABOUT THIS POSITION</p> <p>Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the country, serving as Arizona's center of government, commerce, and culture. It is emerging in the new economy with strength in high technology, manufacturing, bioscience research and advanced business services. Phoenix is a progressive city, brimming with sports and cultural attractions, distinctive restaurants, fascinating museums, diverse residential options, and endless outdoor opportunities.</p> <p>The City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department is seeking Chief Construction Inspectors in the Design and Construction Management Division. The Chief Construction Inspector is responsible for inspecting construction projects such as streets, storm drains, bridges, water and sewer mains, and other specialized projects to ensure compliance with standard and special specifications. Additional responsibilities include enforcing requirements on detailed drawings, plans, standards, and associated construction practices.</p> <p>Key duties:</p> <ul> <li>Perform inspections of construction projects, streets, bridges, storm drain, and bike lanes. </li><li>Inspect materials grades, and other work for compliance with standard and special specifications, details, plans, and standard construction practices. </li><li>Prepare monthly estimates of work completed for payment for contractors. </li><li>Review documentation for Extra Work and write Adjustments for payments </li><li>Install compliant facilities adhering to the American with Disability guidelines. </li><li>Ensure proper safety and traffic control procedures are followed. </li><li>Review Senior Construction Inspector Daily Reports, Extra Work, and Pay Estimates. </li><li>Oversee and train Senior Construction Inspectors, while managing their own construction projects. </li><li>Perform project construction coordination with City Departments, Utility Companies, and other Neighboring Cities. </li></ul> <p>IDEAL CANDIDATE</p> <ul> <li>Strong organization skills. </li><li>Effective oral and written communication skills. </li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Word. </li><li>Knowledge of the City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual. </li><li>Able to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. </li><li>Familiar with using MAG, the City of Phoenix Supplement to MAG, and the City of Phoenix Traffic Barricade Manual for daily inspections. </li></ul> <p>SALARY</p> <p>Pay Range: $30.31 - $47.01 annually.</p> <p>Hiring Range: $30.31 - $40.61 annually.</p> <p>Pay Range Explanation:</p> <ul> <li>Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. </li><li>Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. </li><li>For information regarding pre-screening and driving positions, click here. </li><li>The City job description can be found here. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions and Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings. </li><li>Walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. </li><li>Working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience in/with:</p> </li><li> <p>Basic computer use (i.e. general daily use including sending emails, typing documents in Word, Excel, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Plan reviews for future projects.</p> </li><li> <p>Handling citizen complaints or concerns.</p> </li><li> <p>Construction Plans Review.</p> </li><li> <p>Reviewing Traffic Control Plans (TCP).</p> </li><li> <p>Temporary traffic control and barricading.</p> </li><li> <p>Using the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).</p> </li><li> <p>Interpreting plans and specifications to identify project inspection needs, ensure compliance with requirements and to resolve questions as to intent of same.</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of a City of Phoenix barricade training class is desirable.</p> </li><li> <p>ATSSA certified as Traffic Control Technician and Traffic Control Supervisor.</p> </li></ul> <p>RECRUITMENT DATES</p> <p>Recruitment closes May 21, 2025.
