<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Summer and Extended School Year/ESY Physical Therapist</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>3/19/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>District Wide</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: July 7, 2026 - August 8, 2026, up to 6 Hours/Day X 20 Days, M-Th</p> <p>PRIMARY FUNCTION: Physical Therapist provides specially designed instruction and related services. The physical therapist collaborates with families and education team members to develop appropriate educational programs. Physical Therapist advises on health-related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs to ensure that students function as independently as possible within the least restive environment.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This description of the position of Physical Therapist is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.</p> <ul> <li>Evaluate students using appropriate tests, skilled professional observation and supplementary information from other agencies and records. Perform initial and ongoing physical therapy evaluations according to APTA standards of practice as well as state standards. </li><li>Participate in IEP/504 process, including collaboratively determining the need for physical therapy as a related service under IDEA or as a reasonable accommodation under section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). </li><li>Select, administer, and interpret a variety of screening instruments and standardized measurement tools. </li><li>Design and implement physical therapy intervention that allow students to benefit from their education program and access their educational environment safely. </li><li>Measure and document student progress resulting from the designed physical therapy interventions. </li><li>Teach and train educational personnel to help student achieve his or her IEP goals. </li><li>Work with team members to adapt environments to facilitate student access and participation in the general education curriculum. </li><li>Support and make recommendations for the safe transport of students. </li><li>Serve as a liaison among school, medical personnel and medical equipment vendors. </li><li>Collaborate with team members to plan for transition from school to community, preparing student to function independent from therapy services when targeted outcomes are achieved. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Connecticut Certified Physical Therapist and the National Board for Certified Physical Preferred Qualifications: </li><li>Such other qualifications as the Board of Education may require </li><li>Available July 2026 for training (Training will be prior to July 10, 2023, Date TBD) </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bilingual, English and Spanish </li></ul> <p>New London Public School District is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.</p> <p>Candidates from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply</p>
