<p>Summary</p> <p>The General Manager, under the direction of the Executive Vice President, leads and manages all aspects of the Divisions operations and performance. This role demands an entrepreneurial leader who executes strategic and tactical initiatives while optimizing gross margin and fixed costs to achieve net profitability. Acting within the framework established by the Executive Vice President, the General Manager ensures seamless execution across all business areas.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Learn the business: Establish key relationships with Kent Companies employees to learn best practices, gain industry knowledge, and avoid pitfalls.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with Division Managers and Executive Vice President to learn Underlayments, our business, and the competitive landscape.</p> </li><li> <p>Manage the business: Partner with the Executive Vice President to define and execute the Division's strategic plan focused on profitability, growth, and team development to meet business objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>In coordination with the Executive Vice President, develop the Divisions strategic plan to deliver on net profit.</p> </li><li> <p>Own divisional outcomes by proactively identifying and resolving challenges.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with the Business Development team to drive sales and revenue. Success is measured by ensuring the sales funnel and thresholds are accomplished, and the hit rate and backlog are achieved.</p> </li><li> <p>Cultivate client relationships and identify emerging market opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement effective growth strategies, processes, and infrastructure.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor risks and initiate Corrective Action Plans as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop the People: Establish relationships with your team and develop a deep understanding of team capabilities, strengths, and growth areas. Be transparent with your people and help them understand what makes the business work.</p> </li><li> <p>Foster team-wide engagement and buy-in by consistently demonstrating authentic care and investment in each team members growth and success.</p> </li><li> <p>Build high-performing teams by developing all employees to their fullest potential, cross-training, and establishing career progression opportunities within the Division.</p> </li><li> <p>Act as a resource by mentoring, training, and developing personnel in all aspects of their careers.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in ongoing improvement for yourself and your business. Drive sales, influence, and validate operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Focus on activities that directly contribute to gross margin and business sustainability.</p> </li><li> <p>Apply data-driven insights and operational curiosity to uncover opportunities for cost savings and margin improvement.</p> </li><li> <p>Partner with Business Development to ensure accurate and competitive bid and proposal development; assess success through cost controls, client feedback, and project metrics.</p> </li><li> <p>Establish clear metrics and benchmarks for measuring progress, focusing on division priorities, and maintaining a healthy business balance.</p> </li><li> <p>Strategic Growth and Market Expansion: Execute identified market opportunities that promote growth for the business.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop strong- collaborative relationships with customers and vendors, thereby helping to resolve conflicts, ensuring expectations are being met, and maintaining potential future opportunities.</p> </li><li> <p>Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and vendors to ensure alignment, resolve issues, and foster long-term collaboration.</p> </li><li> <p>Continuously evaluate market trends to inform strategy and maintain competitive advantage.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and manage resource allocation to support project productivity, efficiency, and profitability.</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Duties</p> <p>Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job. Duties and Responsibilities are not comprehensive and can be changed at any time, with or without notice.</p> <p>Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or business management or ten years of experience in the construction industry, along with five years in a leadership capacity </li><li>Working knowledge of various construction disciplines and safety regulations and how to apply them. </li><li>Understanding of cost management processes, planning, and scheduling </li><li>Practical leadership abilities, like motivation, goal setting, and conflict management </li><li>Organizational skills, including time management, delegation, prioritization, and multitasking. </li><li>Creative and results-oriented, with a keen sense of urgency and self-motivation. </li><li>Experience building relationships and working with subcontractors and vendors. </li><li>Excellent communication and organizational skills </li><li>Valid drivers license </li><li>Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s). </li><li>Ability to pass drug screening. </li><li>Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future. </li></ul> <p>Preferred education and experience</p> <p>Experience leading successful team ventures, including developing employees and maintaining relationships with external entities.</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>Kent Companies provides its employees with one of the most competitive compensation and benefits packages in the construction industry. This position requires long periods of sitting and standing.</p> <p>Position type, travel, and expected hours of work</p> <ul> <li>This is a full-time office position. </li><li>This position requires limited travel, inclusive of quarterly travel to Grand Rapids Michigan, and occasional local travel to jobsites and client visits. </li><li>Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.5:00 p.m., with varying schedules based on customer and business opportunities. This role requires the ability to work nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules. Due to the critical nature of the role, accepting phone calls even during nontypical workdays and hours is also necessary.
