We welcome your interest in joining us and look forward to meeting you!</p> <p>POSITION: English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher</p> <p>START DATE: August 24, 2026</p> <p>LOCATION(S): District</p> <p>SALARY RANGE: Placement on the appropriate degree lane and salary step in accordance with Newtown Federation of Teachers' contract linked here</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Valid CT Teaching Certificate, TESOL endorsement (111) </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge and application of subject matter </li><li>Outstanding personal/interpersonal communication and organizational skills with ability to maintain concise records ? Experience with technology in facilitating instruction </li><li>Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain concise records </li><li>Superior problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data and create action plans </li></ul> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Screen Home Language Surveys and administer the English Language Proficiency assessment for eligible students </li><li>Administer annual state English Language Proficiency assessment </li><li>Plan and provide instruction that meet state and federal standards aligned to CELP Standards </li><li>Plan, coordinate, and conduct in-service training, staff development, professional learning services related to best instructional practices for ELL/MLL students </li><li>Participate in curriculum design and modification of instructional methodologies and innovations </li><li>Set high standards for student performance and achievement while still recognizing variations in students backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles </li><li>Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies, and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the administrator </li><li>Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress with evidence of student growth </li><li>Seek the support of district specialists when concerns regarding student progress arise and collaborate with instructional staff to provide language support when appropriate </li><li>Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings for student assessment and program planning as requested by the administrator </li><li>Establish partnerships with the community (as appropriate) in support of the academic program </li><li>Utilize opportunities for professional improvement through self-study, workshops, course work, and in-service training </li><li>Travel to/from school district buildings to provide instruction and student supports as well as professional meetings as required </li></ul> <p>APPLICATION: Interested applicants are invited to apply online through the following link: www.applitrack.com/newtown/onlineapp/</p> <p>Learn more about us here:</p> <p>Newtown Public School's Website</p> <p>The Newtown Public School District is committed to a policy of equal opportunity/affirmative action for all qualified persons.
