<p>General Purpose</p> <p>This position is responsible for safely crossing school age children at an appointed post before and after school.</p> <p>Union Affiliation: Non-Union</p> <p>Pay Grade: $20.00 Hourly, $40 Daily</p> <p>Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week</p> <p>Essential Job Functions</p> <ul> <li>Safely escort children across the street at appointed intersections in the City of Burlington using the crosswalks. </li><li>Guide pedestrian traffic at such places as streets, schools, railroad crossings, or construction sites. </li><li>Act as "Ambassador" for the City, carrying out work and interacting with co-workers and the public in a respectful, professional manner. </li></ul> <p>Non-Essential Job Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Performs other duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies. </li><li>Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development. </li><li>Must be able to work 2 shifts a day. Approximately: 7:30am to 8:20am and 2:40pm to 3:20pm. </li><li>Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. </li><li>Must wear Crossing Guard Traffic safety vest. </li><li>Ability to use a hand held 18"x18" Stop sign to stop traffic. </li><li>Must be able to work in all weather conductions. </li><li>Ability to pass background checks. </li><li>Ability to pass eye and hearing test. </li><li>Familiarity with traffic control procedures preferred. </li><li>Ability to interact with co-workers and the general public in a courteous and professional manner. </li><li>Ability to create and maintain an environment that embraces the 6 operating principles; Customer Service, Fiscal Responsibility, Good Labor Relations, Employee Empowerment, Cooperation and Constant Improvement. </li><li>Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior at all times. </li><li>Must be a flexible team player that takes direction well, is safety conscious, customer-oriented. </li><li>Ability to maintain professional appearance while engaging in field work, by refraining from any use of profanity, inappropriate language, or inappropriate behavior required. </li><li>Ability to obtain appropriate certification of completion for all classes and trainings. </li><li>Familiarity with traffic control procedures preferred. </li><li>Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions. </li><li>Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Promoting a culture that reveres diversity and equity.</p> <p>The City of Burlington is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we are strongly committed to creating a dynamic and equitable work-force that mirrors the population and world that we serve.
