<p>Position Information</p> <p>Position Number 008021 Position Title Research Technologist II - 008021 Division College of Medicine Department 720100 - Biochemistry Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Bachelor's degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and one year of experience in a public health, medical, clinical or research laboratory. An equivalent combination of education or experience may be considered.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications Job Description Summary</p> <p>The University of South Alabama's department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking to hire a Research Technologist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>These are the job duties required of the position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Studies complexes involved in the repair of mitochondrial DNA via the base excision repair pathway. </li><li>Uses both biochemical and biophysical approaches to study the complexes formed during the base excision repair pathway in the mitochondria to include in vitro protein purification, binding activity, and repair assays, multi-angle light scattering, X-ray crystallography, and SAXS. </li><li>Assists new post-doctoral research fellows and graduate students in their projects, as needed. </li><li>Performs basic laboratory tasks such as inventory, ordering of lab supplies, as well as awareness of issues involving laboratory safety, and radiation safety are required. </li><li>Supervises and participates in collecting, recording, and preparing laboratory specimens and cultures for research experiments. </li><li>Conducts technical and very complex laboratory research activities involving the analysis and evaluation of research data and independently preparing reports describing research results using a variety of complex statistical measures. </li><li>Conducts technical and very complex chemical and biological analyses requiring considerable knowledge of associated properties and characteristics of specimens used. </li><li>Assists with the planning of experimental protocols and may adapt new techniques to experiments. </li><li>Supervises and trains laboratory assistants and lower level technical positions. </li><li>May design and direct the construction of laboratory research equipment. </li><li>Maintains inventory records of laboratory equipment and supplies and initiates purchase orders to replenish supplies. </li><li>Regular and prompt attendance. </li><li>Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required. </li><li>Related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Posting Information</p> <p>Number of Vacancies 1 Position End Date (if temporary) Job Open Date 03/13/2025 Job Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Special Instructions to Applicants Working Days Monday - Friday Working Hours 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Job Location Main Campus Full-time or Part-Time Full Time Regular or Temporary Regular</p>
