<p>Job Title: Chapter 74 CTE Dental Assisting Teacher</p> <p>Description: Dept. Career & Technical Education</p> <p>FLSA Status: Unit A</p> <p>Reports to: CTE Director</p> <p>In compliance with state and federal laws, the Newton public school district is committed to equity, anti-racism and a nondiscrimination policy for students, employees and prospective applicants. The teacher is</p> <p>responsible for planning, developing and implementing a comprehensive Chapter 74 Dental Assisting Program for high school students in grades 9 - 12. Students who graduate from the program should leave with the knowledge of the curriculum frameworks and technical competencies skills needed to be successful in the workplace and or in their continued studies.</p> <p>In this inaugural year, the teacher will work full time, using the first semester (Sept.-</p> <p>Jan.) to build the curriculum and the program (alongside the CTE Director). Direct student</p> <p>instruction (full time) will begin January 2027.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Eligible applicants must hold a Chapter 74 Dental Assisting teaching license from the</p> <p>Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or be eligible to obtain such</p> <p>a license.</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Associate degree or higher degree related to the subject matter and skills to be taught </li><li>Four years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to Dental Assisting </li><li>Possession of a current MA (or Master) Dental Assisting license </li><li>Passing score on each test (written test, performance test) for Dental Assisting </li><li>Achieve a passing score on either the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test or the Communication and Literacy Skills Test </li><li>Must have a valid driver's license. </li></ul> <p>DESIRED QUALIFICATTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Prior teaching experience preferred. </li><li>Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected. </li><li>Must be able to work as part of a team and independently. </li><li>Competency in software related to Dental Assisting. </li><li>Competency in the use of computer applications and instructional technology to aid in the interactive delivery of instruction and address daily school responsibilities. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES (Not Limited To):</p> <ul> <li>Responsible for planning, creating and delivering curriculum objectives and competencies in accordance with the MA CTE Dental Assisting Frameworks. </li><li>Ensure students have had the opportunity to master the knowledge and competency skills necessary for the workplace and beyond. </li><li>Establish and maintain a professional classroom/shop environment, with an emphasis on safety, mastery of knowledge and skills and a strong work ethic. </li><li>Meets professional teaching responsibilities per teacher contract including (but not limited to) district, school and departmental goals, monitor, assess and document student progress, and communication with colleagues, students, home, and clinical placements. </li><li>Advisory and 8th Grade Night. </li><li>Supports the Director of CTE in the continual enhancement of the Dental Assisting program. </li><li>Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after school meetings (ex. Back to School night, Advisory) Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function; rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.</p> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, sit, talk</p> <p>and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and stand for long</p> <p>periods of time. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and or move objects weighing up to</p> <p>50lbs. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. The teacher may</p> <p>also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces</p> <p>with exposure to dust, smoke fumes and gases.</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions for this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Ten-month, school year position (183 days). </li><li>Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the Teachers' Contract. </li></ul>
