<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Office of Residential Life at SUNY Cobleskill is excited to announce an opening for the position of Assistant Director of Residential Life. This full-time, 12-month professional role reports to the Director of Residential Life and offers a unique opportunity to provide leadership and support to multiple residence halls. The Assistant Director oversees the supervision and training of both professional and student staff and contributes to the administrative operations of the department, including summer activities. This is a live-on position with on-call duties that include after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage throughout the year.</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>At SUNY Cobleskill, our Residential Life team includes a Director, an Associate Director, two Assistant Directors, and multiple Residence Directors. One Assistant Director focuses on housing operations and logistics (housing assignments, room inventories, and damage billing), while the other focuses on recruiting, training, and developing paraprofessional staff. Both Assistant Directors collaborate on various aspects of our vibrant and modern residential program, including residential education, housing administration, emergency response, marketing, staff recruitment, assessment, summer housing coordination, and support for summer events, such as orientation sessions. Additionally, the Assistant Director will manage a residence hall and perform all duties typically assigned to a Residence Director.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Staff Supervision and Development:</p> <ul> <li>Assist with recruiting, training, and supervising all Residence Directors and over 150 student staff. </li><li>Provide direct supervision to three Residence Directors, six or more Resident Assistants, and other student staff in the primary residence. </li><li>Oversee on-campus student housing within one or more campus residences, managing approximately 150-200 residential students and supervising a team of undergraduate student staff. Direct and intentional engagement with students is a key focus of this role. </li></ul> <p>Student Learning & Development:</p> <ul> <li>Ensure that all professional and student staff are prepared to help students take responsibility for their safety and well-being. </li><li>Facilitate and support academic, cultural, and social initiatives for residential students in alignment with institutional goals. </li><li>Focus on student and professional development through training, education, and co-curricular initiatives. </li><li>Support academic, cultural, and social initiatives for resident students in line with institutional goals. </li></ul> <p>Emergency Response and Crisis Management:</p> <ul> <li>Participate in the Residential Life Professional Staff duty rotation, being available on/near campus while on duty and in emergencies. </li><li>On-call responsibilities include occasional weekends and some holidays, with more frequent summer coverage due to seasonal staffing decreases. </li><li>Provide support and counseling to students, staff, and parents in crisis situations, collaborating with campus counselors, police, and other personnel. </li></ul> <p>Administrative Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Assist with the daily operations of the Department of Residence Life and manage housing operations for 11 residential buildings, ensuring clean, safe, and secure accommodations. </li><li>Create and update policies and procedures with the Director and other administrators. </li><li>Represent Residential Life on divisional and college committees. </li><li>Oversee summer residence hall operations for orientation, overnight camps, and residential guests. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree. </li><li>One to four years of progressive experience in higher education, including supervision of paraprofessional staff, preferably within residential life. </li><li>Ability to develop and maintain a diverse and inclusive community. </li><li>Strong communication and organizational skills. </li><li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively on departmental initiatives, including residential education and student development curriculum. </li><li>Willingness to work within a diverse college population. </li><li>Ability to respond to crisis situations and serve on a duty rotation, including scheduled evenings, weekends, and holidays. </li><li>Physical capability to climb stairs, complete rounds, and respond to calls within student residences across campus. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field. </li><li>Master's degree in Student Personnel Services, Human Services, or a related field. </li><li>Previous live-in experience. </li><li>Experience with student learning and development. </li><li>Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, Maxient, eRezLife, and Ellucian Banner. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>This is an SL-3 position with a salary range of $50,000-$55,151 for 12 months. </li><li>A furnished apartment within a residence hall is provided, and a meal plan is available when dining services are in operation. </li><li>This position offers full New York State benefits which are some of the most comprehensive in the country. </li><li>SUNY Cobleskill is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community for our students and employees.
