<p>SUMMARY OF THE JOB</p> <ul> <li>This position has responsibilities for assigning workload to phlebotomists to ensure timely collections of specimens and proper transport to the appropriate sections of the laboratory. Additional responsibilities include providing test result information to authorized persons in a timely manner and performing other associated clerical duties in a manner to assure the effective functioning of the Reception/Specimen Collection areas. Phlebotomist responsibilities include timely collection and correct identification of specimens from patient for expeditious transport to appropriate laboratory section for testing. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned: </li></ul> <p>Assigns phlebotomists. This involves assigning hand held collection devices and printers, pagers and monitoring phlebotomy collections. Performs un-received lists and error logs in a timely manner. Regulates general workflow of shift.</p> <p>Assigns breaks and lunches. Assures necessary functions are completed. Responsible for accepting and communicating employee call-in's to appropriate sections of the laboratory.</p> <p>Accessions and transports specimens. This involves delivering the specimen from the office to the appropriate laboratory department in a timely manner. Procedures regarding special handling and time restrictions must be followed.</p> <p>Responds to phone inquiries. Answers phone calls and provides information requested or refers to appropriate section if necessary. Includes specimen collection information, testing information, and patient results. Distributes results as requested by printing computerized copies or faxing reports.</p> <p>Prints collection list, distributes master logs, and laboratory reports. Assures printers are set up correctly for printing reports at designated times each day. Monitors printing to ensure legibility of reports.</p> <p>Provides the clerical support for the Laboratory Department. These duties include:</p> <p>Filing records.</p> <p>Copying/faxing records.</p> <p>Entering patient information into the laboratory computer system.</p> <p>Crediting and debiting for laboratory testing.</p> <p>Checks outpatients into the Epic System for after-hours collections.</p> <p>Matching labels and hospital information system orders.</p> <p>Assists with problem solving pertaining to collectors, test orders and results.</p> <p>Complies with Safety Policies, Standards of Employee Conduct, and Laboratory General, Computer, and Compliance Policies and Procedures.</p> <p>Collect blood specimens. This involves the collection of venous and capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients and the coordination of other body fluid collections. Once the orders are placed in the computer, the person must check the orders for any special requirements and location of the patient. The person must proceed to the location of the patient with the supplies needed and confirm patient identification by patient armband asking the patient to state name and date of birth. Pre-transfusion collections also require the patient be banded. After identification, the person collects a blood specimen using appropriate equipment including vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, or lancet. The person must label the specimen tubes with appropriate information pertaining to patient and collection. Approximately eighty-five percent of time is spent in this function when assigned to phlebotomy.</p> <p>Performs Activated Clotting Times (ACT).</p> <p>Transports specimens. This involves delivering the specimen from the patient collection site (either in person or via the pneumatic tube system) to the Central Processing Laboratory Department. Procedures regarding special handling and time restrictions must be followed.</p> <p>Assists with new employee and student orientation and training.</p> <p>Utilizes OnBase for physician order storage for non-EPIC physicians</p> <p>Serves on teams or committees.</p> <p>Miscellaneous cleaning.</p> <p>Inventories and stocks supplies.</p> <p>Reports productivity.</p> <p>Continues education.</p> <p>Delivers reports.</p> <p>Outreach Services - Call Center</p> <ul> <li>Job Duties includes the following duties; others may be assigned. </li></ul> <p>Manages fee report for runs outside of lab days and business hours and reports data to Lab Business team monthly.</p> <p>Ensures any additional items for delivery are added to appropriate route and courier is notified.</p> <p>Monitors recollect logs and ensures patients are called in a timely manner.</p> <p>Responsible for managing and updating courier routes as changes may occur.</p> <p>Reconciles gas cards and card statement at the end of each month.</p> <p>Monitors courier vehicles using cloud-based electronic logging device (ELD) and fleet management platform and notifies leadership of motor vehicle violations.</p>
