<p>The University Museums consists of Picker Art Gallery and the Longyear Museum of Anthropology. Reporting to two co-directors, this position will have primary responsibility for supporting student engagement and programming for both museums. The University Museums are at an exciting point in their history. As a key component of Colgate's ambitious Middle Campus Plan for Arts, Creativity, and Innovation, our team is currently envisioning and redefining how academic museums fit into the contemporary liberal arts experience and into the cultural fabric of the regional communities into which the campus is embedded. Our strategic plan prioritizes implementing decolonizing practices across museum operations, creating a more inclusive and accessible program, increasing student and faculty engagement, enhancing collaborations on and off campus, and developing collections that represent a wider range of identities and experiences.</p> <p>Accountabilities</p> <p>This position requires you to collaborate with colleagues whose roles also span both museums and their collections. Daily responsibilities include managing student employees across various museum locations and creating social media content for both museums.</p> <p>This position plays a supporting role in promoting student engagement with the museums, assisting with the coordination of museum programming, and overseeing student employees and ambassadors. The person filling the position will accountable for the following:</p> <ul> <li>Working closely with museum staff, university departments, and community partners to develop, implement, and oversee the museum's schedule of public programs. </li><li>Engaging in best practices for bringing accessibility and inclusion, as well as decolonizing principles, to all museum programs. </li><li>Recruiting, training, and supervising student employees, gallery attendants, and student docents, including managing student schedules to ensure staffing needs are met during gallery open hours and for all public programs. </li><li>Creating, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive training program to impart knowledge and skills for student employees and interns. </li><li>Overseeing the Museum Ambassador program. </li><li>Arrange meetings with student groups on campus to encourage collaborations. </li><li>Supporting communications about University Museums programs to various audiences across campus- especially through digital formats, such as social media channels and e-newsletters </li><li>Assisting with the coordination and facilitation of Colgate class visits to exhibitions and collections.
