This role helps foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, and student-athlete growth. The Assistant Coach works closely with the Head Coach and athletic staff to ensure the program aligns with school and district expectations.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours or online 20-hour substitute training. </li><li>Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management </li><li>Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students </li><li>Knowledgeable of and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations. </li><li>Abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education. </li><li>Abide by and uphold all rules and regulations established by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. </li><li>Actively pursue the licensure to drive a school bus suitable for the sport they are coaching. </li></ul> <p>Performance Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved. </li><li>Assist in making plans and scheduling a regular program of practice in season. </li><li>Work with the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests. </li><li>Assist in making recommendations to purchase equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate. </li><li>Assist in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all uniforms and equipment as appropriate. </li><li>Assist with necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork. </li><li>Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area where the assigned sport is conducted. </li><li>Assist in establishing performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport. </li><li>Enforces discipline and sportsman-like behavior at all times, and assists in establishing and overseeing penalties for breach of such standards by individual students. </li><li>Has a good working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport he or she is coaching. </li><li>As a representative of the Poplar Bluff R-I School District, the assistant coach will reflect a favorable impression of our school system to other schools and communities. </li></ul> <p>Expectations of Poplar Bluff Coaches:</p> <ul> <li>Follow all policies set forth by the board of education. </li><li>Follow all building and department rules and procedures. </li><li>Have the desire to create a positive influence on players, fans, colleagues, and others to win. The desire to win should never override the health, safety, or welfare of the athletes. </li><li>Possesses strong values and work ethic. </li><li>Motivate those directly and indirectly associated with the program to have a supportive sense of ownership of the program </li><li>Promote the athletic program by strategically involving others, including parents and media. </li><li>Establish and maintain positive relationships with persons involved in the school's operation. </li><li>Have the understanding and control required to respond to a total setting even during the most highly pitched emotional situation. </li><li>Be organized and prepared. The coach remains flexible at all times, remaining constantly aware of the need for revision and change. </li><li>Be a continuous student of the game, constantly searching for better methods, techniques, and strategies. </li><li>Be dedicated and committed to the coaching profession. </li><li>Take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse. </li><li>Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and be responsible for interpreting rules to team members. </li><li>Actively use their influence to enhance good sportsmanship among their spectators and instruct players in their sportsmanship responsibilities. </li><li>Show respect and support for contest officials. </li><li>Keep the Athletic Director informed of major problems and decisions. </li><li>Be a proactive host to opponents, treating them as guests. </li><li>Inform players of the conduct expected of them in the locker room, other school facilities, on the floor or field, and the bus. </li><li>Instruct athletes as to the potential dangers of participating in that sport. </li><li>Properly condition players who are members of their squad. </li><li>Turn off lights, lock doors, and ensure the building and equipment are secure. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather. </li><li>Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time. </li><li>Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors. </li><li>Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone. </li><li>Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and addressing groups. </li><li>Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. </li><li>Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes. </li><li>Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee. </li></ul> <p>Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.
