<p>Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Victim Fund (VSDVVF) Grant Prosecutor</p> <p>Minimum Requirements: J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Active membership in good standing in the Virginia State Bar and licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.</p> <p>Preferences: Prior experience in criminal law. Prior prosecution experience. Prior jury experience. DUTIES: The position includes but is not limited to prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies in Circuit and District Courts by conducting legal research, witness interviews, negotiating with defense counsel, preparing jury instructions and presenting cases at trial. Preparing legal briefs and memoranda of law. Establish effective and respectful relationships with office personnel, judicial agencies, victims and witnesses, law enforcement officers and the public. Maintaining accurate files, ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to manage a large caseload and work well in a team environment. Must exhibit steadfast commitment to fairness and public service. Since this office is engaged in Community Prosecution, skills such as innovation, creativity and an ability to build strong partnerships in the community to identify and solve problems are necessary.</p> <p>In a part-time capacity, the domestic violence attorney prosecutes cases that are domestic in nature. These cases range from assault and battery, sexual assaults, stalking, abductions, weapon offenses, and family abuse. In addition to time spent in court, the attorney also meets with victims and their supportive family members, to "break the cycle" of domestic violence - this is typically done with our office's Victim Services Unit. The part-time grant funded domestic violence attorney also participates in training with local law enforcement regarding the intricacies of effectively investigating domestic violence cases for successful case prosecution.</p> <p>The project period for this grant is 7/1/2025 through 6/30/2026.</p> <p>This is a part-time position compensated at $36.25 per hour, for up to 29 hours per week.</p>
