<p>Duties</p> <p>Curriculum & Instruction</p> <ul> <li>Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned to NATEF/ASE Education Foundation </li></ul> <p>standards across all eight automotive service areas: Engine Repair, Automatic</p> <p>Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train & Axles, Suspension & Steering, Brakes,</p> <p>Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.</p> <ul> <li>Integrate current diagnostic technology including scan tools, oscilloscopes, and OEM- </li></ul> <p>level software into daily instruction.</p> <ul> <li>Teach both foundational theory (automotive systems, physics of motion, electrical </li></ul> <p>principles) and hands-on practical application.</p> <ul> <li>Develop project-based learning experiences using student-owned, donated, or school </li></ul> <p>Vehicles.</p> <ul> <li>Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels </li><li>Incorporate academic content areas including mathematics, science, and technical </li></ul> <p>reading/writing into coursework.</p> <p>Shop Management & Safety</p> <ul> <li>Establish and enforce rigorous shop safety standards in compliance with OSHA </li></ul> <p>regulations and district policy.</p> <ul> <li>Manage shop equipment, tools, parts inventory, and consumable supplies within the </li></ul> <p>departmental budget.</p> <ul> <li>Conduct regular equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance or repair of shop </li></ul> <p>Machinery.</p> <ul> <li>Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment consistent with industry </li></ul> <p>Standards.</p> <ul> <li>Ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials including oils, fluids, and </li></ul> <p>chemicals in accordance with EPA guidelines.</p> <p>Student Assessment & Support</p> <ul> <li>Assess student learning through written exams, practical skills demonstrations, and </li></ul> <p>ASE-style assessments.</p> <ul> <li>Prepare students for ASE Student Certification examinations. </li><li>Track and maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, competency </li></ul> <p>attainment, and industry certifications.</p> <ul> <li>Provide individualized feedback, tutoring, and academic interventions for students </li></ul> <p>needing additional support.</p> <ul> <li>Advise students on post-secondary pathways including apprenticeships, technical </li></ul> <p>colleges, and entry-level employment.</p> <p>Career & Industry Engagement</p> <ul> <li>Advise the school's SkillsUSA chapter and prepare students for regional and state </li></ul> <p>automotive competitions.</p> <ul> <li>Develop and sustain partnerships with local dealerships, independent shops, and </li></ul> <p>automotive industry employers.</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate student internships, job shadows, co-op placements, and industry tours. </li><li>Connect students with apprenticeship programs through organizations such as the </li></ul> <p>UAW-Ford or dealership technician pipelines.</p> <ul> <li>Serve as a liaison between the school and the automotive industry advisory committee. </li></ul> <p>Professional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and fellow CTE teachers to support student </li></ul> <p>success and program goals.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in ongoing professional development, including industry externships, ASE </li></ul> <p>training, and CTE conferences.</p> <ul> <li>Maintain current ASE certifications and stay abreast of evolving automotive technology, </li></ul> <p>including hybrid and electric vehicle systems.</p> <ul> <li>Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, </li></ul> <p>behavior, and career opportunities.</p> <ul> <li>Complete all required administrative duties including lesson planning documentation, </li></ul> <p>inventory logs, budget requests, and program reports.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Valid state teaching license/certification in Automotive Technology, Trade & Industrial </li></ul> <p>Education, or CTE (or eligibility to obtain within one year of hire).</p> <ul> <li>ASE certification in one or more of the eight automotive service areas (A1-A8), or ability </li></ul> <p>to obtain within 90 days of hire.</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 3 years of professional automotive service, repair, or related industry </li></ul> <p>Experience.</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated proficiency with modern diagnostic equipment and vehicle technology. </li><li>Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and operate various types of </li></ul> <p>vehicles for instructional purposes.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of OSHA shop safety standards and hazardous materials handling </li></ul> <p>Regulations.</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>ASE Master Technician certification (A1-A8) or Master Automobile Technician </li></ul> <p>Designation.</p> <ul> <li>Experience with hybrid, electric vehicle (EV), and advanced driver assistance systems </li></ul> <p>(ADAS) technology.</p> <ul> <li>Prior secondary or post-secondary teaching or training experience. </li><li>NATEF/ASE Education Foundation program certification experience. </li><li>Experience advising SkillsUSA or other CTE student organizations. </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Vocational Education, or a related field </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>This position requires frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in a commercial</p> <p>automotive shop environment. The teacher must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work</p> <p>around vehicles, power tools, hydraulic lifts, and chemical substances. Exposure to noise,</p> <p>fumes, grease, and varying temperatures is expected. Some evening or weekend hours may be</p> <p>required for competitions, community events, industry meetings, or professional development</p> <p>activities.</p> <p>Salary/Benefits</p> <p>SALARY: Per the negotiated agreement</p> <p>BENEFITS : TRS, health insurance and leave time (sick and personal)</p> <p>Additional Notes</p> <p>The High School Automotive Technology Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering a</p> <p>rigorous, industry-aligned curriculum that prepares students for careers in the automotive</p> <p>service and repair industry. This position combines theoretical instruction with extensive hands-</p> <p>on shop experiences, giving students proficiency in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and</p> <p>repair using current tools and technology.
