Our graduates are well-prepared for a multidisciplinary world thanks to a flexible and diverse curriculum, informed through strong employer partnerships, which meets the needs for a well-educated and skilled workforce.</p> <p>Position Profile</p> <p>The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Schools's Chemistry & Biochemistry laboratories. The Academic Laboratory Specialist is responsible for maintaining the Department's laboratories and support facilities, inventory of chemicals and supplies, and ensuring a proper maintenance schedule for equipment. The Academic Laboratory Specialist prepares laboratories for instructional, and outreach use and manages hazardous waste generated by department research and teaching activities.</p> <p>Supervision Exercised</p> <p>May supervise support staff.</p> <p>Position Responsibilities</p> <p>Assists the Chairperson or Dean's designee with purchasing laboratory supplies and equipment, oversight of supply budgets, approving and processing invoices for payment. Prepares service contracts for laboratory and other department equipment, and performs minor repairs as needed.</p> <p>Responsible for the preparation, setup, and clean-up of class laboratory sessions in coordination with faculty.</p> <p>Maintains the Department's equipment, systems, instruments, and computers establishing a routine maintenance schedule and arranging for repair services with vendors. Submits work orders to Facilities Management as appropriate.</p> <p>Maintains inventory of all chemicals in the academic department purchased, stored, and disposed of, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and in coordination with the University Department of Environmental Health and Safety, where applicable.</p> <p>Assists in the preparation and editing of laboratory manuals for lab courses. Monitors laboratory activity during student "open lab" sessions.</p> <p>Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level and responsibilities of the position.</p> <p>Applicant Evaluative Criteria</p> <p>Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated for appointment based on the following:</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree in academic discipline in area where assigned or related field and three years of experience in laboratory technical, education, or research work in the assigned discipline or field.</p> <p>Experience and Training:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and make responsible fiscal and safety decisions. </li><li>Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may be considered. </li></ul> <p>Ideal Candidate</p> <p>Preference will be given to applicants with the following:</p> <ul> <li>Supervisory experience of laboratory personnel is desirable. </li><li>Demonstrated desire to participate in continuing training. </li></ul> <p>To Apply</p> <p>To begin the application process, select the "Apply" button and electronically submit the following documents by April 27, 2026.
