The Cytotechnologist examines slides microscopically to detect abnormal, atypical cells that may be present. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Identifies fungi, parasites, bacterial and viral infections. • Prepares specimens for cytologic exam. • Performs and documents all quality control and preventive maintenance procedures. • Performs specimen receiving and processing; answers the telephone and greets guests to the department. • Regularly reports all abnormal findings to the cytopathologist and patient caregiver as required. • Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities: projects, teaching, tech in charge, and evaluation of new technology. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions • Responsible for maintaining an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators. • Follows the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agencies requirements. • Practices infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area. • Maintains confidentiality of patient record, hospital and departmental matters at all times. Qualifications Education/Training • Graduate from an approved school of Cytotechnology. Bachelor's degree in science or Cytotechnology • Current license as Cytotechnologist in the State of Florida - renewed biennial in August. Certified Cytotechnologist (ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists - renewed annually. • Passed research, ethics, and compliance training (CITI), is preferred. Experience • Five (5) years of experience in an academic endoscopy unit with assessment of more than 2000 EUS-FNA samples. • Experience with ROSE assessment of cholangioscopy-guided biopsies. • Basic knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis. • Teaching experience in processing samples and assessing for ROSE in educational lab settings using teaching models. • Experience with telepathology technologies. • Experience with use of basic science Nikon software for tissue quantification in research, is preferred.</p> <p>Education/Training • Graduate from an approved school of Cytotechnology.
